Year Two - Spotlight on Learning
Dear Families,
It has been a fun week participate in St Thomas' Mathematical Adventure in Paris. We have been learning about lots of Olympic sports, watching the medal tally closely and demonstrating teamwork and sportsmanship as we cheer on our team mates. We know not everyone will be good at every game and not everyone will win, but the important thing is we are having FUN!
Next week we are learning...
Religious Education: We are learning about Saint Mary MacKillop and the visible image of God within the scripture from Corinthians.
Mathematics: We are looking at operations within our link to the Olympic games style math games. This week we have played: Pipe Cleaner Archery, Pom Pom Shot Put, Ping Pong Ball Hurdles, Balloon Bump Soccer and Synchronised Dicing. We have been learning about the sports that inspire these maths game, answers questions about the medal tally and create dour own class medal tally within our groups.
English: We will be looking at visual representations of characters' reactions, speech and thought processes. As well as using subject and object pronouns within our sentences.

Auslan: This week we are revising our first unit from this term.
Social/Emotional Learning & RRRR: This term we are learning about gender identity and specifically the different roles and occupations associated with the genders. In Week 5 we have an incursion webinar with Kids Helpline where we look at resilience. You will receive a permission slip to complete for students to participate, please do so ASAP.

Reminders
Book Week is coming up in a few weeks time (Week 6) with the theme 'Reading is Magic'. On Friday 23rd August we will be having our Book Week dress up and parade.
As part of our Maths Olympic unit students will be developing their own game. Parents have the opportunity to come in and play these games with their children. Parents are invited to come to one of the following sessions:
Day 1: Friday 9th August 11:45-12:30
Day 2: Monday 12th August 11:45-12:30
Day 3: Wednesday 14th August 11:45-12:30.
We understand that for many parents this may not be possible, so we will be sending home their created games to play with you so you don't miss the experience.
