Year One - Spotlight on Learning

Olympic Week Extravaganza!

This week, our Year One class has been fully immersed in the exciting world of the Olympics! We kicked off our learning journey by exploring the rich history and vibrant traditions of the Olympic Games. Our focus in Maths involved a thrilling “Maths Olympics,” where students engaged in fun activities using key concepts like highest number, total, most, comparing, and tallying.

In our Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) sessions, we highlighted the Olympic values of excellence, respect, and friendship. The students have been inspired by the sportsmanship displayed by Olympians and have been practicing these values in their own activities.

In Integrated Studies, we delved into the significance of Olympic ceremonies, particularly the Opening Ceremony. Our discussions have also included connections to Indigenous Australians and their cultural heritage, fostering a deeper understanding of the diverse traditions that are celebrated in the Olympics.

It’s been a fantastic week of learning, with our students showing great enthusiasm and curiosity. We look forward to sharing more of their Olympic-themed adventures in the coming weeks!

Reminders

  • Students are required to be wearing their school uniform. As it is very cold please remind them to bring a school jumper or jacket.
  • Please send your student to school with fruit for brain food
  • Students are required to bring their reader bag to school each day
  • We would like to highlight that we have students within our community who are anaphylactic to nuts. While we are not a nut free school, we strongly encourage you to be mindful of nut products in lunchboxes. We understand that many of the students in our community enjoy Nutella for lunch. This is understandable and we appreciate that so many students let us know when they do so that we can take steps to ensure the safety of our students.
