MCG Excursion

Our students have really been getting into the Olympic spirit, highlighted by our excursion to the MCG. We were lucky enough to hear from a couple of Australian Olympians - sailor Carrie Smith and diver Dean Pullar, who let us hold his bronze medal from the Sydney Olympics in 2000. Students played interactive games, visited the museum and took a tour of the ground, which included the media centre and change rooms.

 Ski Camp

48 students from Year 6 were able to experience one of the best ski mountains Australia has to offer, Mount Buller. Seeing the first brown sludges of snow, to skiing for hours on end with their friends, the students had a wonderful experience and one they will remember forever. A lot of students had never seen snow before, so the excitement was fever pitch. But it was the determination and persistence to learn how to ski which stood out the most and everyone should be extremely proud of themselves. Thank you to all of the students for their fantastic behaviour, as well as the teachers and parents who went along. Our biggest thanks is for Mr. Wastie, who put in countless hours of hard work to make this camp happen.

Girls' AFL Gala Day

On Monday, 11 schools travelled to Elgar Park for a girls' football competition. Our team from Vermont gave their all throughout the day, despite the fact that 90% of the team had never played before! Some players then helped another school who were short of players and were able to kick a couple of goals. Congratulations to all the players who stepped out of their comfort zone and showed great teamwork and encouragement to each other. Who knows, we may have unleashed some future AFLW stars!

Book Fair

While the Book Fair is here at the school, some of the Year 5 students had the opportunity to spend time with their Year 1 buddies! They were able to help show them around the books on offer and then had a chance to read some of the many books in our amazing library.

Writing

To begin our Procedural Writing unit, the Year 5’s took notes while some world renowned cooks demonstrated the process of making a yummy slice. After they had completed writing their task, the students were rewarded with a piece of the slice to try!
