Science
Science Week certainly went off with a big bang this week! The students have been learning about the force 'friction' and conducted an experiment to work out which person in the group they were working with had the grippiest shoes.
The highlight of the week was the Jollybops Incursion, where students learned about chemical reactions. They particularly enjoyed the experiments that made balloons explode!
Maths
Students have applied their knowledge of fractions, their equivalents and different ways they can be represented, to create a memory game. Hopefully we get them finished and tested out this week so it is something you could enjoy together when they are brought home.
Writing
Year 3 students have continued to broaden their poetry writing skills with the focus this week being cinquain and diamante poems. At the end of this unit you will be able to see this wonderful work when they bring home their Book of Poetry.
Here are some Haiku poems 3KY has been working hard on!
Inquiry Materials for Grade 3
Towards the end of Term 3, students will be carrying out a design project as part of our Inquiry unit. Over the coming weeks if families could gather milk and juice bottle tops (or anything else they think would work well as a wheel) it would be extremely helpful. If possible could you ensure these are washed and brought to school in a zip lock bag.
Book Week Dress Up
On Monday 19th Assembly we have the annual Book Week Dress Up parade! This year, the teachers of Year 3 classes will be coming as characters from Harry Potter. 3PA, 3BM and 3KY have all been reading these novels! We encourage all Year 3 students to also come dressed up as characters from the book so we can make our own mini Hogwarts at VPS. This is optional, so if your child has other big plans or you already have something organised then we are excited to see it!
In Term Three, the Year Four classes finished off the term with a display on our topic of Indigenous History. Some photos are below from 4ED and 4CC.
Last week we were lucky to have Shae Graham visit us before she heads off to the Paris Paralympics. The students were all so excited to gain her autograph and learn about her journey to the Paralympics in Wheelchair Rugby.
This term in Inquiry students are learning about the Human Body. The last two weeks they learnt about the Skeletal and Muscular System. The students made robotic hands and found out how many bones are in the hand. Ask your children how many bones are in the Human Body or where the largest and smallest bones are.
In Writing, students are learning how to create ideas for Narratives and to use the "funnel" to narrow down a topic. Next week students are focussed on adding more detail and interesting word choices.
This week students also participated in a Science incursion called Jollybops and made harmonics from icy pole sticks.
On Monday 19th Assembly we have the annual Book Week Dress Up parade! The theme this year is "Magical" , we encourage all students to dress up as characters from a book.
