Year 9 Update

The Year 9 students have been embracing the spirit of 'glee' through an exciting series of joy-filled activities in the last two weeks.

The debating team kicked things off with an exciting win. Gabriella B, Ruby B and Beatrix S argued that “Streaming platforms, such as Netflix, made the right decision by enforcing account sharing bans.”

The Year 9s also engaged in a refreshing yoga session, where they explored the meditative benefits of yoga. They practised pranayama breathing exercises, and learned about how overcoming feelings of discomfort and trying something new can foster personal development.

Following yoga, students participated in a thoughtful journaling task centered around what it means to be a 'Shelfordian.' They created personal definitions of our school values and compiled playlists that reflect these values. Here are some standout tracks from their playlists and the values they represent:

  • Respect: "Lean on Me" by Bill Withers – This classic anthem captures the essence of mutual support and kindness.
  • Creativity: "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen – An iconic song that celebrates breaking creative boundaries, imaginative expression and artistic flair.
  • Passion: “Believer" by Imagine Dragons – A powerful song that embodies determination and enthusiasm in the face of challenges.
  • Integrity: "All in This Together" by High School Musical – A reminder of the importance of unity and shared principles.

The Year 9s also thoroughly enjoyed the Future Insights program, where they had the opportunity to hear from a diverse group of Shelford alumni and professionals. This program provided valuable insights into various career paths, helping students envision their future possibilities.
