Year 7 Update

As we move through this term, our Year 7 students have been engaged in a series of enriching and thought-provoking activities designed to enhance their personal growth and understanding of our school values.

Two weeks ago, we had a wonderful time at Chapel with Mrs Juers, focusing on our word of the term, 'perseverance.' This session was incredibly valuable as it allowed the girls to reflect deeply on their understanding of perseverance and how they can apply it in challenging situations. Mrs Juer's insights and guidance provided the girls with a greater appreciation of the importance of persevering through difficulties and remaining resilient in the face of adversity.

Last week, our girls participated in an insightful session with Toolbox Education on 'Mental Movies.' This session focused on the concept of challenging the 'movies' in our minds that often replay and create anxiety and worry. The girls learned invaluable skills such as creating distance from their unhelpful stories, avoiding unhelpful patterns of thinking and worry, and developing mature language to communicate their experiences. It was an empowering experience that provided our students with practical tools to navigate their thoughts and emotions more effectively.

We also had a Memory Book session, which aimed to deepen the students' understanding of our school values and what they mean to them as Year 7 students. Through this activity, we discovered that our values are reflected daily in our peers, teachers, the content being taught, and the broader school community. The girls reflected on what it means to be a Shelford Girl and how they can embody these values in their daily lives, ensuring that they remain a guiding force throughout their time at Shelford and beyond.
