As I write this newsletter, I am trying to come to terms with the fact that we are almost halfway through August. I know I am not the only one who feels that this year is flying by too quickly! Last night I had the pleasure of attending a Shelfordian Reunion for the classes of 1974, 1979 and 1989. It is always a delight to spend time with our valued alumnae. Last night three of our Prefects Audrey K, Alice J and Shakira E enjoyed leading tours and hearing about Shelford over the years. It was wonderful to see different generations of Shelford students interacting so warmly and easily.
It was also heartwarming to hear one Shelfordian comment that she enjoyed spending time with the Prefects and how much they reminded her of herself and her peers in their own school days. This moment was a poignant reminder to me of the strong connection that exists amongst our Shelfordians as well as the strength of the Shelford spirit that will stay with our students and impact their world, and the people close to them, long after they have left our beautiful grounds. Once a Shelford Girl - always a Shelfordian.
Plans are well underway for two events to commemorate Shelford Girls' Grammar in this historic year. On 10 October we will host Remembering Shelford commencing at 7.00pm and on 20 November our final Presentation Evening will be held at Robert Blackwood Hall. Both of these events will be an opportunity for the Shelford community to come together to honour and celebrate our wonderful School. Please mark these dates in your calendar; further details will be provided in the coming months.
I am delighted to announce that Jenni Thom, a much-loved and respected member of our Music Department will be returning to Shelford from Monday 19 August, after a period of extended leave. Jenni will be working on a number of Music projects across the School. I know that staff, students and families will be excited to see Jenni return to our community.
Jo Ritson, Head of Sport, recently gave birth to her first child, a beautiful baby girl, named Olivia, (below). Congratulations to Jo and her family and we all look forward to meeting Olivia soon.
Naomi Henry, one of our wonderful Junior School Teachers, will leave us at the end of this week to prepare for the birth of her first child. On behalf of the community, I wish her all the very best for the exciting period ahead. I look forward to welcoming Naomi back to Shelford towards the end of the year.
