Principal's Report
This week is a big one for us here at St Finbar's; over the next two days we are celebrating the Sacrament of Confirmation, our very own St Finbar's Olympics and Grandparents and Special Friends Day.
We wish our Year 6 Confirmands all the very best as they receive the third and final Sacrament of Initiation this evening. They are well prepared and more than ready to take this next step in their faith journey.
Our St Finbar's Olympics tomorrow is shaping up to be a lot of fun. By now all students have their "country" and it should be a colourful celebration. We even have an ex-olympian silver medallist coming along as a special guest
Please take some time to check the dates on the first page of our newsletter, and/or keep an eye on the school Google calendar as there is a lot coming up over the next few weeks.
New Parish Name - Emmaus Parish
You may be aware that there has been an amalgamation of Parishes this year, with St Finbar's, St Joan of Arc and St James joining together as one. On the 9th July Archbishop Peter Comensoli announced that our amalgamated parish will be known as Emmaus Parish. This name change is mainly for administrative purposes with little changing at the local level, our church will retain its St Finbar's name and identity.
Grandparents' and Special Friends Day
We are looking forward to our annual Grandparents' and Special Friends Day tomorrow, Friday 26th July. This is always a big day for us; the information below may help with logistics.
- Thomas Sherry playground will be open for parking from 11:45am
- The children may sit with their grandparents during Mass - the teachers will do their best to facilitate this as classes enter the church.
- Following Mass, grandparents and friends are invited to visit the classrooms. School staff will be available to help everyone find the right classrooms. Generally, we'll direct grandparents to the youngest child's classroom and older siblings can meet their grandparents there. Family groups are welcome to stay together if you need to visit two or three classrooms.
- At about 1:30pm grandparents and friends will be invited down to the hall for a light lunch. Christian will be on site with his coffee van, and the P & F are generously funding the coffees.
Swimming Program
Our swimming program is happening this term and will run from 26th August to the 5th September. Swimming is an integral part of the Health and Physical Curriculum and will be reported on in the semester 2 reports. We expect all children to participate fully in the program, unless there are genuine reasons preventing them from taking part. Students who aren't swimming for whatever reason will remain at school and be supervised in other classrooms.
Aerobics Championships
We have four teams participating in the AeroSchools State Aerobics Championships next Thursday in Diamond Creek. The students have been hard at work practising and we wish them all the best for next Thursday. We'll look forward to some photos in next week's newsletter.
Take care and God bless.
Michelle Hill,
Principal
