Book Week 2024 August 17 - 23
Theme: Reading Is Magic
It’s that splendid time of year again where we get to celebrate the magnificent authors here in Australia! Traditionally Book Week has been one of the highlights in the school calendar. This year is no exception. During the week, our children will listen to the short-listed texts and have lots of opportunities to respond to them in a variety of ways! Classes focus on a Shortlisted Book to study during the Week and then create a display for our School Gallery. We’ll even vote for our favourites. We will have a dress up day where staff and kids come dressed as their favourite book character or pay homage to the theme, Reading is Magic. Get creative with bits and pieces you may have around your homes. Get the kids involved in helping to put together the ‘just right’ outfit. We can’t wait to see what “magic” might look like! Hope you can join in the fun.
The parade including a Gallery Walk is scheduled for 23 August beginning at 9am.
See you there!
Sick students
There are a number of sick children and families at the moment. Last week, we had a significant number of absentees with a variety of illnesses. We also sent a number of students home who were unwell. We understand that you require travel time to collect your children when they are unexpectedly ill but we do not have the capacity to keep them here for extended periods. Please keep children home if they are unwell to help us reduce germ transmission and keep staff, students and families as healthy as possible.
Student Free Day
Please be reminded that we have a Student Free Day on Friday 2 August. TeamKids is available for bookings on this day. Staff will be working on our Intervention Framework at the MACS office on this day. https://www.teamkids.com.au/
Traffic
Andrew reports that motorists need to exercise greater care around Gower Street during drop off and pick up times. He is concerned about motorists double parking, travelling beyond 40km and doing u turns. We want to make sure all children and families remain safe so please take care.
Help Us Plan for 2025
It’s that time of the year when we begin planning for the new school year. An important part of this cycle is the employment of staff. It is critical that we employ the correct number of staff and ensure these teachers are the highest quality candidates. To achieve this goal, we need to accurately estimate our student population in a timely manner. Under employing and then attempting to find quality candidates at the last minute is extremely difficult, especially in this time of teacher shortage. Likewise, overemploying seriously reduces our available funds for day to day operations. It’s like walking a tightrope. The optimal outcome for your children is for us to employ the right number of staff for full classes. Therefore, we ask you to support us in these two ways:
- If you are leaving Holy Rosary in 2025, please let us know as soon as you know. Even if you think leaving is a possibility, please tell us to assist with our planning. Please let the office know.
- Please promote Holy Rosary in the local community. Classes that have optimal numbers ensure the best learning opportunities across the board.
Well done Caitlin in 56W and Allegra in 34G for completing the challenge.
