Addressing Mistreatment and Racism: Our Commitment to a Safe and Inclusive Environment

At St Patrick's Primary School Tongala, we are committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all students. We believe that every child has the right to be treated with respect and dignity. Mistreatment, bullying, and racism have no place in our school community. We take these matters seriously and are dedicated to ensuring that all students feel valued and heard.

We adhere to the following:

  1. Zero Tolerance:
    • We have a zero-tolerance policy towards mistreatment and racism. Any form of discrimination, harassment, or bullying is strictly prohibited and will be addressed promptly and effectively.
  2. Education and Awareness:
    • We provide ongoing education to our students, staff, and community about the importance of respect, diversity, and inclusion. Through education, we aim to build a culture of empathy and understanding.
  3. Reporting and Support Systems:
    • Students who experience or witness mistreatment or racism are encouraged to speak up. We have established multiple channels for reporting concerns, including:
      • School Chaplain/Wellbeing Leader Access: Our school counsellor is available for students to discuss any issues they may be facing in a confidential and supportive setting.
      • Online Reporting Form: Accessible through our school newsletter, allowing students to report incidents from the comfort of their own homes.
  4. Listening and Taking Action:
    • We listen to every report of mistreatment or racism with the utmost seriousness. Each report is investigated thoroughly, and appropriate actions are taken to address the issue. This may include mediation, counselling, disciplinary action, or other measures as necessary.
  5. Support for Affected Students:
    • Students affected by mistreatment or racism receive immediate support. This includes access to counselling services and regular check-ins to ensure their wellbeing.
  6. Regular Review and Improvement:
    • Our policies and procedures are regularly reviewed and updated to ensure they remain effective and relevant. We welcome feedback from our students, staff, and community to continuously improve our approach to handling mistreatment and racism.

At St Patrick's Primary School Tongala, we stand firm in our commitment to a school environment where every student feels safe, respected, and valued. We believe that by working together, we can create a positive and inclusive atmosphere that empowers our students to thrive.
