Principal's Report

We trust our families had a wonderful break and students are refreshed and ready for what will be a busy term 3. Students have returned settled and are working hard in classes and our year 12’s are focused, and completing their outcomes as they begin what will be their last term as secondary school students before they finish coursework and prepare for exams.

We have had a lots of activities to kickoff the term. Year 11 students have travelled to Melbourne to complete a week’s worth of work experience, REACH ran social emotional workshops for students in years 7-10, De La Salle College Music students performed for local Primary school students and our year 7 students and school football and netball teams represented the school.

School Review

Every four years, all government school's across the state, complete a review to reflect on performance and set the new strategic plan. The first day of our school review was held on Friday the 19th July. The Review panel is made up of:

School Reviewer: Julie Myers

Senior Educational Improvement Leader: Paul Hon

Challenge Partners: Jason Bysouth (Principal, Weeroona College) & Kate Whitford (Principal, Rochester Primary School)

Rochester Secondary College Staff: Matthew Koutroubas, Mitch Bright and Lauren Pellegrino.

Day one was a really positive start to the process. The review team unpacked data sets from the last four years at RSC and noted our whole school achievements as well as our academic success and positive wellbeing data. The review team also completed classroom observations across the school to see classes in action and talked to students about their learning. The analysis and reflection of current practices, and conversations about future directions will assist in planning for the next four years

Our next review days (Fieldwork Days) include additional classroom visits, teacher forums, student forums, education support staff forums and also parent forums.

The parent forums will be hosted at 8:45am - 9:10am this upcoming Wednesday 31st July and this Thursday 1st August at 2:30pm-3:00pm. It’s a great opportunity to provide further feedback and context about Rochester Secondary College to the review panel regarding:

  • Engagement opportunities
  • Communication processes and approachability
  • Parent/community voice and partnership

If you’re interested in participating on one of the forums, please let me know via email to matthew.koutroubas@education.vic.gov.au

NAPLAN Results

NAPLAN results have been posted home for students in year 7 & 9. Once you receive your child's NAPLAN results, we encourage you to celebrate their achievements, regardless of the outcome. These results are a snapshot of their abilities/performance at a particular moment, and it's important to remember that growth and progress occur at different rates for each individual. Further information regarding the school's NAPLAN results will be released in future newsletters. The school has had some very positive results that we are proud of.

Cheers,

Matt
