Level 3 & 4 Wonga Weekly

Week 3, Term 3

WEEK 3 LEARNING

CBL

This week we explored Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs and all the things we need to be happy, healthy and successful learners.

We are continuing to use our Gratitude Journals to tune in to the positives in our daily lives. We will be looking at the benefits of identifying gratitude, as well as asking, how we can support our peers to feel respected?

📚 Literacy

This week in Phonics we are assessing students progress in response to our targeted and explicit phonics approach. This will allow us to map out future learning,  strengths and identify areas of need. Students continue to build their vocabulary through daily exposure to word definitions and how these can be used in writing. They have also enjoyed learning and practicing diagonal joins to and from the letter 'c'.

In Reading, we are reading and responding to queries from our class novel The Iron Man. In fluency pairs our focus is accuracy, speed and appropriate tone.

What you can do at home

Discuss interesting words that your child has learnt at school. Try and use these words in conversation during the week. Encourage your child to set aside time to read every night, include time to read aloud and or record themselves reading on their iPad. Some students are participating in the Premiers Reading Challenge, this is a great way to expose your child to a variety of literature.

In Writing we will continue to exploresentence structure, with a focus on building complex sentences by joining simple sentences with a coordinating conjunction. We are identifying the purpose, structure and features of an information report.  Each lesson scaffolds a different section on the information report, including identifying and using paragraphs to separate key ideas and information.

🎲 Maths

This week we are building and practicing a range of mental and written multiplication and division strategies in order to solve worded problems. Students will use the CUBES strategy to identify key parts of the problem and evaluate what steps are needed to solve it. We will also be introducing basic fractions towards the end of the week.

What you can do at home

Complete 400 points of Mathletics including all set task.  You can support your child to practice their times tables. In Grade Three, our focus is on 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s. In Grade Four we continue to strengthen these as well as building in 4s, 6s, 7s, 8s and 9s.

🌿 REMINDERS

🌱 Students are encouraged to bring their iPads fully charged each day

🌱 If your child wishes to bring slippers, they can bring these in to be worn in the classroom only. Additionally, you might like to put a spare pair of socks and pants in your child's bag during the wetter months.

🌱If you can help out for SAKG, please check your emails for the volunteer link.

🌱We are using whiteboard markers and boards everyday. It would be fantastic if students could bring a set of their own that are labeled.
