A big thanks to our generous families and friends for supporting the Book Fair! We sold a large number of books and generated over $600 in credit for our school which we will now use to add to our library of decodable readers and other literacy resources.
The Lucky Lolly Jar Competition was lots of fun and we have a number of lucky winners:
- equal 1st place (lollies & a book prize) - Rocco Camera, Charlotte Owen & Ava Arendarcikas
- equal 2nd place - Rocco Viviani & Walter Vanderheiden (book prize)
- equal 3rd place - Milly Camera & Abbey McKay (book prize)
Prizes will be handed out this week during Library class. For all the curious lolly lovers, there were 171 lollies in the tub!!!
BOOK WEEK
Children's Book Week begins next week (17th - 23rd August). Book Week is a special time for schools, libraries, and communities to come together and celebrate Australian children's literature. It’s a week where we shine a spotlight on the many benefits and joy of reading!
All classes have been reading and exploring a number of shortlisted books and our senior students have been participating in Shadow Judging, which involves sharing responses with the CBCA judges to assist them in selecting a winning Book of the Year. Years 3-6 students are in the process of completing a creative response based on their favourite shortlisted book. We will share some of our work once it's completed.
The book parade is next week, on THURSDAY 22nd AUGUST at 9:00 am. The theme this year is READING IS MAGIC. Students are invited to dress up as any book character of their choice, however some good ideas to match the theme are witches, wizards, magicians or fairies.
Parents and friends are more than welcome to come along to our book parade.
Library Days:
Thursday Yrs 3 - 6
Friday Yrs P - 2
Please remind your child to bring a cloth library bag to keep borrowed books clean & safe.
Thanks to our wonderful book covering helpers! There are lots of new titles waiting to hit the shelves and I’m always grateful for help with contacting books. If you’re able to spare some time to take a small pile home (contact supplied), please send me an email or come by the library or office on a Thursday or Friday morning before/after school.
Thanks and HAPPY READING 🙂
