Dear SJV Families,

It's hard to believe that we are already half way through the term with so much having taken place.  Over the coming weeks, our main focus will be on our whole School Musical, Once Upon a Fairytale Crisis. Please make sure that you read the letter that will be shared with you all in the coming days regarding the musical.

Next week at SJV, the students will be celebrating book Week as well as busily preparing for the book week parade which will take place next Thursday in the MPR at 9.00am. Parents are more than welcome to attend. A special thanks to Vicki Dagher for organising book week activities and the parade.

Exciting News - Holiday Program will begin in the September Holidays!!! Please read further below for details.

Their Care

In exciting news, Their Care will be introducing a Holiday program here at SJV during the September holidays. This is wonderful news as many of our families have had to use holiday programs at other schools. In order to sustain this program we need at least 10 children attending each day during the school holidays so if you are interested, please contact Their Care. They have planned many wonderful activities for this holiday program, even an excursion to Luna Park!!!

Please read flyer on the Outside School Hours Care page.

Building Project / Capital Grant 2025 - $2.4 million dollars

With the exciting news that SJV has secured a $2.4 million dollar grant  for stage 1 of our Masterplan, we have begun the process of meeting and fine tuning with the Architects the internal and exterior design. Our governing body MACS have also appointed a Project Manager who will work with us during this building project and will meet with us tomorrow and take a look around the school. We will continue to keep you informed of the progress of this building project.

Staffing News

In sad news, Chloe Lawlor (Year 3/4EL teacher and Wellbeing Leader) will not be returning to SJV for the remainder of the year due to her health. Unfortunately it has not improved as much she had hoped for and they are continuing to treat her illness. While this is not the news that we were all hoping for, it is important that Chloe puts her own health and wellbeing first.  With Dominique Monotti now taking on the PE role, I would like to announce that Ms Elise Fisher will now be the classroom teacher in Year 3/4EL for the remainder of the year on Thursday and Friday. Elise is an experienced teacher who has worked in a variety of schools and is highly regarded by many. Elise will begin this role officially on Thursday the 22nd of August. I am sure that you will all make her feel welcomed here at SJV.

I would like to thank Taigan Evans for her tireless efforts working with the children and Dominique Monotti for filling the position temporarily replacing Chloe whilst on sick leave.

Please continue to keep Chloe in your thoughts and prayers while she continues to receive treatment for her illness.

St John Vianney Feast Day

On Monday the 5th of August, the students all gathered in the MPR to celebrate a liturgy for St John Vianney's Feast Day. It was a beautiful service that was wonderfully led by our Year 5 & 6 students. As a part of the celebrations of St John Vianney's Feast Day, the students participated in a mini Olympics. They all looked amazing wearing the Green and Gold and joined in all of the activities with such enthusiasm. Congratulations to all involved. I am sure we have a few future Olympians here at SJV.

Confirmation

Congratulations to our Year 6 students who received the Sacrament of Confirmation last Sunday with Bishop Tony Ireland and Fr Justin. It was a lovely Mass with many staff in attendance. The candidates were most impressive with their responses and the way that they participated in the Mass.

Fathers Day Breakfast / Father's Day Stall

The Father’s Day Breakfast will take place on Friday the 30th of August 7.45am -8.45am. We would like to see all dads and their child/children come along for a cuppa and bacon and egg breakfast. Please make sure that you return the slip to the school office for catering purposes.

The Father’s day stall will take place on Thursday the 29th of August.

In the past few weeks the students of SJV have begun rehearsals for Once Upon a Fairytale Crisis, our full school concert for 2024.  The students are very excited to be learning the songs, dances and script and are already working hard!

Please make sure that you save the date for Once Upon a Fairytale Crisis - you definitely won’t want to miss this show!

Children are more than welcome to come and assist but please note, there will be no access to the school buildings other than the PFA and maintenance sheds. We would also like to provide a sausage sizzle at the end of the Working Bee. If any parent would like to coordinate the sausage sizzle please contact Steve Kelly or the school office. BBQ will be dependent on if we can find someone to cook it.

Can we also please ask that if you are able to attend that you could bring either pruning tools, painting gear, shovel, rakes and a wheelbarrow or two that could be used.

We look forward to many parents coming up to assist.

Classes for 2025

As we begin the process of planning ahead for 2025 classes, I ask any families who know that they will not be returning to St. John Vianney's in 2025 please inform me as soon as possible. principal@sjvparkdale.catholic.edu.au

  • Term 3 concludes on Friday 20th of September at 1pm.

New Shade Sail

Earlier this week we installed a new shade sail in the corner of the oval. This was a part of the shade sail grant that was offered by the Victorian Government and MACS. This now enables classes to go and work out there under shade and for students to play under there during their play times.

2025 Prep Enrolments

Our Requests for School Tours are continuing with many booking times to come and visit our wonderful school!

We are continuing the process of enrolling 2025 Prep students. If you know of anyone who is considering enrolling at the Foundation (Prep) level or any other year level, please encourage them to come and take a look and get in quick as places are filling fast. Families can book a school tour by contacting Nicole in our front office or scanning the QR code or book online on the SJV Website. Our enrolments are open to Catholic and non-Catholic students. Enrolment forms can also be downloaded from the school website or collected from the office.  We have been delighted with the highly encouraging response to the 2025 enrolment application process.

Reminders

  • Dogs - Please note that for the safety and wellbeing of all members of our community, no dogs are permitted inside the school grounds and they must not be left unattended tied up at the gates. Adult supervision and holding of the leash is so important around vulnerable places such as schools.  We love dogs but we do have to take care of all members of our community.
  • Bikes and Scooters - Please walk bikes and scooters when moving through the school grounds.
  • Punctuality - It is expected that all students are to be at school by no later than 8.45am and not any time up to 9am. From 8.45am to 9am is crucial for students to get themselves organised, start the day with prayer, take the roll and ready to commence their day promptly. Formal lessons begin at 9am. Any child who arrives at or after 9am is to be signed in at the office by a parent/guardian. I ask all parents to make sure that you adhere to these times.
  • The next newsletter/update will be shared on Thursday the 29th of August.

Regards
