PDHPE

Year 7 have started their water safety unit in theory lessons whilst Year 8 have begun a unit on Food Choices. Both of these units are designed to encourage students to make sensible decisions and prioritise their own health. In practical lessons they have begun to learn and participate in some hitting and striking games. Kickball, T- Ball, Cricket and Pickle Ball are some of the sports that students can expect to be playing in their practical lessons this term.
This term Year 9 PDHPE have been learning about diversity, empathy and identity during their theory lessons. In practical lessons they have started to learn a range of cultural and target games. The Aboriginal Game “Edor” has proven to be quite popular. Students are encouraged to wear a hat during PE lessons and remove their jumpers as the weather starts to warm up.
Year 10 PDHPE have recently completed their “Fit for Life” assessment task, showcasing their knowledge and practical skills in resistance training. Throughout the unit, students explored the importance of maintaining a balanced fitness routine by incorporating upper body, lower body, and core exercises. In groups they developed a personalised workout program, focusing on correct technique, progressive overload, and overall wellbeing.
Well done to all Year 10 students for their effort, enthusiasm, and dedication in finishing this unit.
Our Year 9 PASS students have just begun a new unit titled “Sports for Specific Groups”, where they will explore how physical activity can be adapted to meet the needs of different communities. This unit focuses on promoting inclusion and understanding through sport, with a particular emphasis on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people with disabilities, young children, and the elderly. Students will investigate how participation in physical activity supports health, wellbeing, and social connection across these groups, while also learning to modify games and activities to ensure everyone can be involved. As part of their practical learning, students will take part in inclusive games such as Blind Volleyball, One-Armed Cricket, and Bocce, giving them a hands-on experience of how sport can be both fun and accessible for all.
Year 10 PASS have just begun a new unit titled “Issues in Sport”, where they will explore some of the major ethical and social challenges faced in the sporting world today. The unit focuses on the use of performance-enhancing drugs in sport and the official organisations that monitor drug use and cheating, such as WADA and ASADA. Through discussions and case studies, students will examine the impact of these issues on athletes, teams, and the integrity of competition.
Stage 6 HMS (Human Movement Science) students have officially commenced their HSC course, beginning with the unit “Training for Improved Performance.” This unit explores how athletes design and implement training programs to enhance their physical performance, with a focus on energy systems, training methods, and physiological adaptations. Students will examine real-world examples and apply their knowledge through practical and theoretical activities.
As they embark on their final year of studies, it’s a great time to remind students of the importance of making consistent study notes throughout the course - building strong summaries now, will make revision and preparation for assessments and exams much more manageable later on.
