Camp Quality Puppets Deliver Crucial Message to St Joseph's Students!
We were delighted to welcome the much-loved Camp Quality Puppet Shows to St Joseph's School last Friday, November 14th! The performers presented two fun and interactive sessions, one for our Prep to Year 2 students and another for Years 3 to 6.
The aim of the Camp Quality Cancer Education Program is to help our school community understand cancer and how it affects a whole family. The engaging performances assist students in knowing how to be supportive of peers, siblings, or family members dealing with a diagnosis.
Key Learnings for Our Students:
The age-appropriate shows successfully fostered empathy and understanding by addressing crucial themes, including:
- You cannot catch cancer from someone else, dispelling common myths.
- Understanding treatments and side effects.
- Practical ways to be supportive of someone facing cancer.
- The importance of self-recognition of our own strengths and positivity.
Research has even shown that this vital program can help reduce bullying, absenteeism, and mental health issues by creating a more compassionate, informed and supportive school environment. We are so grateful to Camp Quality for offering this valuable program to our students at no cost.
Supporting Camp Quality
Beyond the puppet shows, Camp Quality also provides wonderful camps for children and families facing cancer and visits sick patients in both Monash Hospital and the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne. We are actively considering ways we can support this fantastic cause in return. We will be announcing shortly what the students decide to do to help Camp Quality!
Thank you to the Camp Quality team for their wonderful presentation.
Warm Regards,
Jenny Todd
