A New Resource for ENPS – Exploring Australia’s Migrant Story

Thank You, Manmeet!
Our library has just received a very special donation from one of our Year One parents. This morning, Manmeet Bedi kindly shared his newly published book Where the Mustard Fields Meet the Southern Cross with our school community!
Manmeet's beautifully illustrated picture book follows one of the earliest Sikh families to arrive in Australia, beginning in Melbourne in 1885 and continuing through the life of Teja Singh Grewal. Through themes of courage, belonging, and kindness, the story highlights the rich contribution migrant communities have made to Australia’s multicultural identity.
The book also includes a historical timeline and links directly to Humanities and Social Sciences and History curriculum topics on migration, community, and early settlement. We are thrilled to accept Manmeet's donation, which will enrich student and staff learning at our school and deepen our understanding of Australia’s vibrant multicultural community.
Manmeet, thank you for generously sharing your important work with us. At ENPS, we deeply value connectedness and celebrate our intercultural community with immense pride. Your book is a wonderful contribution to these values, and we are so grateful for this addition to our library. We're all thrilled by the news of your publication and extend our warmest congratulations!
We have included below a video of Where the Mustard Fields Meet the Southern Cross for our readers. For those wishing to purchase a hard copy, the book will be available from 2nd December via manmeetbedibooks.com and Amazon.
Would you like to share your child/family's extra-curricular achievement or an example of your family taking action within our wider community? Please get in touch with our editor at Fran.Milic@education.vic.gov.au. We'd love to hear from you.
