Positive Climate for Learning.

The second half of Term Four has been a busy time at Epping Secondary, with many incursions, excursions and activities happening, including:

End-of-Year Excursions

Epping Secondary College’s end-of-year cohort activities for our Year 7, 8 and 9 cohorts went very well this week and last.

On Friday December 12 our Year 8s enjoyed a day at Geelong Adventure Park, and our Year 9s had a day in the city undertaking the Amazing Race activity.

Monday December 15 our Year 7s went to Funfields Adventure Park at Whittlesea and had a fantastic day out.

Peer Support 2026

Peer Support is a student leadership initiative at Epping Secondary College that helps build positive relationships between our new Year 7 students and our Year 10 leaders. Working in groups of four, the Year 10 students will facilitate and run Learning for Life sessions throughout Term 1, 2026.Our Peer Support Training Day was held on Tuesday 9th December. As well as creating their lesson plans for next year’s classes, the leaders also supported the running of our Year 6 Transition Day activities.

Year 7 Humanities - Multicultural in Australia

This term, our Year 7 students completed an assignment on the different cultures that exist in our country.

To develop a deeper connection to culture and celebrate their efforts, Mrs Mesquita invited her husband Jose from @josemesquitadrumming to teach 7B students West African and Brazilian rhythms, two cultures that were studied in her class.

Jose was impressed with the speed in which the students were able to learn the rhythms. They even had time to have a little dance together. Well done, 7B and thank you Jose for sharing this lesson with the students.

New Year 9 Common Area Transformation

The 2025 Student Representative Council (SRC) Legacy Project focused on transforming the Year 9 M-block common area into a practical, safe, and comfortable space for both work and relaxation. With the area newly carpeted and painted, students recognised a valuable opportunity to elevate the space even further.

The project began with the creation of the House Wall, followed by a detailed proposal submitted to School Leadership outlining recommended furnishings. SRC students collaborated to brainstorm, problem-solve, and test a range of design options, ultimately selecting a combination of booths, sensory stools, and a central couch. They also curated a collection of student artwork to be displayed on the walls later, adding personality and vibrancy to the space.

Early feedback from students has been overwhelmingly positive. SRC will present a full evaluation to School Leadership, with the goal of extending similar upgrades to the Year 8 and Year 10 common areas in 2026.

Remembrance Day 2025

On the 11/11, the year 9 cohort went to the Shrine of Remembrance for their Humanities city experience.

Remembrance Day is the day where we remember and honour our fallen soldiers who fought and died for our country during WWI. Despite the poor weather conditions, we remained resilient throughout the entire duration of the ceremony, in order to pay respect to those who have passed.

Our year 9 Student Representative Captains Sara and Eloise had the great privilege of laying a wreath alongside many other incredible people, such as our Premier Jacinta Allen, the Governor General and our Local MP the Honourable Andrew Giles who was representing the Prime Minister.

In spite of nerves crawling under their skin, they persevered and left a token of respect and gratitude on behalf of Epping Secondary College.
