Preps

Preps have been introduced to the Ukulele, learning the different parts of the instrument, plus how to hold and play the strings 'gently'. They have learnt how to play a 'C' chord and the Am chord and strumming patterns whilst accompanying a Youtube clip. Last week they played the C chord only in the song Best Day of my Life, and resting whilst other chords are played. This week we sang Row, Row,Row your Boat in C major with simple four beat strumming pattern, and singing at the same time. They are trying so hard to accomplish many things at the same time.  I am so proud of their attitude and determination. Great job Preps.

Grade 1/2

Students have now learnt 3 different body percussion patterns from Rhythm One. This week they have also had a go at DJ Raphi’s dance to Uptown Funk and learnt about the street dance style of tutting. On the ukulele students have played Iko Iko (My Bestie) and Walk like an Egyptian using C and F major chords.

Grade 3 & 4

Students have been focusing on different genres of music. They have played blues and surf rock songs on both percussion instruments and ukulele using C, F, Am and G7 chords. They have also been introduced to reading and playing in tablature.

Grade 5 & 6

Students have continued playing music from movies on percussion instruments and the ukulele including Pirates of the Caribbean, Good to be Alive from The Peanuts Movie and Hallelujah from Shrek. Students can play C, F, Am and G chords.

Visual Art

Grade Prep’s

This week, the Grade Preps are continuing to work on primary colours. We are paying particular attention to the artwork of Piet Mondrian who explored the use of red, yellow, blue and black to create interesting art pieces using shapes and line. This week we are adding black printed outlines to our primary-coloured shapes using cardboard as stamps and black paint. Some of these are on display in the office. If you are free before school pick up, pop in and visit our foyer gallery.

Grade 1’s & 2’s

The Grade 1/2’s are continuing to explore primary and secondary colours. This week, we had lots of fun creating a background of amazing secondary colours using a rock and paint. The children guided a rock randomly onto the page creating an interesting collection of lines with the colours mixing wherever they overlapped. This was a very relaxing and mindful session. The Grade 1’s will add a focal point of 16 mini squares filled with detailed patterns using a black fine liner. The Grade 2’s will do a similar focal point but will be using a circle for their patterns using black fine liner. Also, some of the Monet chalk drawings from last term have been put up in the office foyer gallery. If you are free before school pick up, pop in and take a look.

Grade 3/4’s

The Grade 3/4’s used all the skills from our last lesson to create base papers with oil pastels for our weaving project. Most students are up to gathering their colourful strips to create a simple woven pattern. The vibrant blended colours against the black backdrop create the illusion of depth. These look amazing and I can’t wait to display them in our office foyer gallery.

Grade 5/6’s

The Grade 5/6’s are putting the finishing touches to their 3D landscapes, some of which will be on display at the Seaside Fair. They have done an amazing job and the detail in some of them is excellent! Some students have moved onto to studying Henri Matisse’s paper cutouts and have begun creating their own colourful masterpieces.

Art Supplies

We are already looking ahead to the 2026 Art Show and need some interesting supplies. If you happen to have any used, ready to throw away paint brushes like the ones in the photo, can you please send them along to the Art Room? If we get enough supplies, we will be creating some fun characters with recycled materials.

Thank you to those who have already dropped some off to the Art Room.

Art Club

This term Art Club is open to the Grade Preps. Today we created some large leaves using various paint colours to create shades of green. These will be added to our large flowers and will be on display at the Seaside Fair. Some participants chose to do free drawing and let their imaginations run free.

Sport Update

Last week, a number of our talented athletes represented Willy Primary at the Western Metropolitan Region Athletics Championships. This event marks an incredible journey that began back at our own school athletics carnival in Term 2, followed by District and Division levels. We are extremely proud of all our students who competed at this high level, showing great determination, effort, and school pride.

A special congratulations to Banjo K, who has qualified for the State Finals in the 1500m, and Henry F, who not only won his 800m race but also broke the Western Metropolitan Region record! An amazing effort from both students — we wish them the very best of luck as they head to State Finals.

Warm regards,

Paddy Gallivan
