Year 5/6 Team News
with Christina, Emma, Molly, Bianca I, Bianca R, Matt & Brittlee
We have had another fun filled fortnight in 5/6 with more interschool sport finals, kicking off group projects and hosting of assemblies.
The next few weeks brings lots of assessments, the beginning of Health Education and planning and transitions for 2026. Please make note of all the important dates to be across below.
This week, the Grade 6s met and shared ideas for the song that they should sing at this year’s graduation. It was narrowed down to 8 songs and students voted on their top 2 choices. We will confirm our song choice on Friday and send home lyrics so we can get a head start on practising for the big night!
What’s Coming Up in the Classroom in the Next Fortnight?
Reading: In week 5, we will be finishing all reading assessments. In week 6, we will begin looking at a variety of both fiction and non-fiction and learning to compare and contrast texts.
Writing: In weeks 5 & 6, we will be following the writing process to complete a procedural text to accompany their inquiry group project.
Maths: Classes are completing modules based on 4 operations, BODMAS and algebra. We will begin our final unit on number patterns within this fortnight.
Inquiry: We are busy working in groups, designing and building a board game that features a variety of electrical circuits. Students will work together to design the rules of the game to use this within writing sessions to complete a procedural text of the rules. We will aim to have a board game day where all groups will be able to swap and play the games of others.
Willy Kids: In weeks 5 and 6, Willy Kids are Honest. Students will explore the terms integrity, honour and fairness and apply this to their everyday lives.
Respectful Relationships: Will pause during Health Ed weeks.
Health Education: The 90-minute sessions will take place each Tuesday during weeks 6,7 & 8. Please ensure you have given consent and payment via Compass.
