This fortnight...

Dear Parents and Carers,

Since our last update, we have celebrated Awesome Day, and what an incredible day it was! Our Grade 5/6 students did an outstanding job running Sideshow Alley, offering a wide range of fun and sometimes challenging activities for the rest of the school to enjoy. It was fantastic to see our senior students working together, showing leadership, and helping make the day a success.

Last week was also an important time for assessment, as students completed a range of tasks across Literacy and Numeracy in preparation for our upcoming reporting period. We were really proud of the effort and focus shown by all students.

Our Grade 6 students who will be attending Bendigo South East Secondary College in 2026 took part in a Scavenger Hunt transition session at BSE last Wednesday. It was a wonderful opportunity for them to start finding their way around the college, meet some of the staff, and begin to feel more confident about the move to Year 7. Thanks to Mr Crawford for coordinating this visit!

Our student led production of 'The Wizard of Oz' is in full swing ahead of next weeks performance. Brilliantly led by Hannah and beautifully supported by everyone else involved, it has been a real pleasure watching our kids work together on such an engaging project, highlighting their skills, talents and passions!

To round out the week, several of our students represented the school at the Division Cricket Competition last Friday. It was a great day of teamwork, sportsmanship, and fun—well done to everyone who participated and represented our school so well.

In Literacy, we’ve continued to strengthen our reading comprehension skills, focusing on inferring meaning and exploring character motivations—why characters make the choices they do, and what this reveals about them. In Writing, students have been working on letter writing. Our Grade 5s are crafting persuasive and thoughtful letters as part of their applications for 2026 leadership roles, while our Grade 6s are reflecting on their time at Spring Gully Primary School through their letters.

In Mathematics, we have been revisiting and consolidating our understanding of Time, building on learning from earlier in the year. Students have been working on converting between units of time, calculating elapsed time, and applying these skills to real-life contexts such as timetables and schedules. It’s been great to see their confidence grow as they make these important connections across different areas of mathematics.

A friendly reminder that tomorrow is a Curriculum Day, and students are not required to attend.

As we head into the final five weeks of the school year, we have lots of exciting events and learning opportunities ahead. Please keep an eye on the important dates listed above—Term 4 is moving quickly, and there’s plenty to look forward to!

Warm regards,

5/6 Team
