What we are learning...

LITERACY

As part of our structured literacy block, students explored homophones – words that sound the same but have different meanings and spellings, such as there, their and they’re. Through reading, spelling, and writing activities, students learned to recognise and use homophones accurately in context, strengthening both their vocabulary and their understanding of how word meaning changes with spelling.

As part of our Our Island Home Inquiry unit and literacy focus, students have begun researching one of Australia’s neighbouring countries to create an information report. They will learn to locate these countries on a map, gather information from reliable sources, and translate their findings into their own words. Through this process, students will develop research, comprehension, and report-writing skills while deepening their understanding of Australia’s place within the Asia–Pacific region.

MATHEMATICS:

Our fluid Maths topic this fortnight has been investigating 'time'. We have looked at analogue and digitial time, as well as calendars, timetables and elapsed time. We are getting so confident at telling the time both digitally and on analogue devices and calculating elapsed time has been a great achievement for us!

TOPIC

Building on our Our Island Home Inquiry unit, students explored how symbols can represent a country’s identity and values. They designed and created a unique coat of arms for their imagined island nation, using visual symbols, colours, and mottos to express what their nation stands for.

COUNTRY & BELONGING:

'Country and Belonging' is a project that Arena Theatre Company is delivering for our entire Grade 3-4 cohort this term. A combined art and performance program, students will participate in in-school workshops each Wednesday across 5 weeks; the second week's session, however, is a guided excursion to Bendigo Art Gallery. A big thank you to Mr Daenke for organising this important journey for us!
