News from the School of Entrepreneurs

From the SOE Head of School

Dear students and families of the School of Entrepreneurs community,

Welcome to the final term of 2025!

The last week of Term 3 was very eventful as we farewelled the Class of 2025. As we approach the culmination of another remarkable academic year, it is with both pride and nostalgia that we gather to recognise and bid farewell to our incredible Year 12 students. The culmination of their high school journey is marked by the upcoming HSC conclusion on Friday, November 7th. These young minds have shown their unwavering dedication to learning and are models of what resilience looks like in the face of academic pressure. On Wednesday 24th September, they also celebrated with staff, family and friends the milestone of their Year 12 Graduation Awards Ceremony and moments from their unforgettable formal on Thursday 25th September. We have watched them grow, learn and transform into the remarkable individuals they are today, and we have every confidence that they will finish their HSC examinations strong and with the same determination and persistence. As they embark on this final chapter, let us wish them the best of luck and success in all their endeavours. Your St Luke’s family will always be here to support and cheer you on as you step into the bright futures that await you. Congratulations, Year 12!

As we farewell the outgoing Year 12s we recognise the incoming Year 12s (Class of 2026) who have this term commenced their HSC study. As these students embark on the culminating year of their schooling, it is essential that they dig deep early on and strive to be the best academic version of themselves. During their HSC they are advised to: ask lots of questions, start their study notes now and complete these each week, look for the ‘one percenters’ that they are encouraged to implement in their study that will put them ahead of the game, complete practice HSC exam style questions and submit these for feedback and submit drafts of their assessment. It is also important that they consciously protect and look after their wellbeing by ensuring they make time for family and friends, sleep, exercise, preparing nutritious meals and talking to their parents and teachers about how they are going and strategising to help relieve some of the pressure they may feel.

Year 9 WWI Incursion

At the end of last term, students in Year 9 had the opportunity to attend an incursion on World War One. This incursion allowed students to deepen their understanding about the war through the material culture of the time. Students were able to select the artefacts that they wanted to know more about. It was a great experience and both staff and students enjoyed the incursion.

Year 10 Geography Fieldwork Excursion

In Term 3, Year 10 experienced a beautiful day on the beach when students had the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of coastal processes by conducting fieldwork at Collaroy and Narrabean beaches. Students were able to see the destructive impact of human activities on the coastal environment. Although we were not able to get down onto the beach as the level of erosion meant that the entire beach was consumed by water, we were able to see the many different attempts to protect the beach. This information was then used by students in their inquiry project to investigate the mitigation strategies for human induced environmental change.

PDHPE

Year 9

Students are currently engaging in both practical and theory classes for their unit this term.

For their assessment, students are participating in game based scenarios including ultimate frisbee, oztag and AFL. Students are working on increasing their understanding of teamwork, spacing, attacking, defending, communication and how to implement strategies effectively.

We encourage students to use their previous knowledge and skills to adapt to various game scenarios. Already, the PDHPE teachers can see a vast improvement in skill, sportsmanship and encouragement from all the students participating during the game.

Year 12 Health Movement Science (HMS)

Yr12 HMS students have begun their HSC modules in preparation for their first assessment. The students in the class have shown their ability to step up to the challenge of the health based content and are demonstrating an amazing eagerness to analyse health in various communities. In class we have discussed how we, as a school community, could propose solutions, and advocate for others to improve health. Continuing in the module, Health in an Australian and Global context, students will be analysing and investigating the health status of various countries around the world and see if their strategies could be implemented effectively in Australia. We also get to acknowledge where Australia sits in reference to our international partners.

Religious Education

Year 9

Students were introduced to their new unit this term with the driving question “How can we take responsibility as stewards to actively care for our common home?” Students participated in an immersive journey exploring the Catholic teaching of the “Cry of the Earth.” Rooted in Pope Francis’ Laudato Si’, this experience invited students to reflect deeply on how we, as people of faith, are called to care for our common home.

Through a series of interactive and contemplative activities, students engaged with the reality that our planet is “crying out” due to the impacts of climate change, pollution, and deforestation. Students also engaged in issues that also harm vulnerable communities across the world. Working through their reflection journals, students were encouraged to consider how their own choices can contribute to healing creation and promoting justice.

Year 10

Students were introduced to their new unit this term with the driving question “Why Should I Pray?” As part of the entry event students participated in an experiential journey through immersing themselves in six prayer stations. They were designed to help them explore different ways of communicating with God. Using their Prayer Journal, students moved through a series of reflective and creative prayer practices drawn from Scripture.

From meditating on The Lord’s Prayer through Lectio Divina, to engaging with Rembrandt’s The Return of the Prodigal Son in Visio Divina, students were invited to slow down, listen, and open their hearts to God’s presence. The Mandela and Journalling stations encouraged personal expression and reflection on how prayer deepens our sense of peace and purpose, while the Prayer Wall and Breath Prayer offered moments of stillness and connection through shared and silent prayer.

Pathways and Partnerships

Our goal in Partnerships and Pathways is to connect every learner with real people, real projects and real opportunities. One of the ways in which we do this is through our university partnerships.

Academy U is a program run by Western Sydney University that gives selected students the opportunity to complete a university subject while still at school, earn credit toward a future degree, and be eligible for early university offers and scholarships.

Our newest Academy U cohort recently attended the Welcome Evening at Western Sydney University - officially beginning their journey in this program. The evening celebrated their acceptance into the Academy U partnership, where students will explore leadership, innovation, and real-world problem-solving alongside university mentors.

Our Year 10 Academy U students have attended their official onboarding session for Leadership in Complexity, a first-year university subject delivered through our partnership with Western Sydney University. This program gives students the chance to study at university level while still in school, developing advanced skills in leadership, systems thinking, and collaboration. We’re proud of our students as they begin this exciting academic challenge.

Camp Aspire

Congratulations to Lachlan, who has been selected to attend Camp Aspire - a three-day residential program at Macquarie University for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander senior students across NSW. The camp provides hands-on experiences in university life, cultural activities, and opportunities to explore future study pathways. We’re proud of Lachlan for representing St Luke’s and embracing this incredible opportunity.
