Nurturing the Next Generation of Leaders at St Luke’s

As St Luke’s enters a new phase in its ever-evolving and growing journey, a more focused and purposeful Student Leadership Body has been developed to meet the needs and aspirations of our vibrant community.

In nurturing young leaders within our school environment, we are excited to share the new Leadership Structure of St Luke’s, as outlined in the image below.

With great enthusiasm, our current Year 3 students—our budding 2026 Year 4 leaders—have been inspired to harness their leadership qualities and express their interest in applying for one of our Portfolio Leadership Roles for 2026.

The application process was thoughtfully supported by our newly appointed Year 12 2026 Student Leaders, who worked alongside the Year 3 students to model leadership qualities and guide them in reflecting on how they can make a positive impact within the school.

Last week, our Senior Leaders assisted in facilitating the next stage of the process, as aspiring Year 3 students prepared persuasive texts outlining why they believe they would make suitable leaders for one of the portfolios.

The calibre of applicants has been truly impressive, and a thoughtful discernment process now awaits to determine who will take on these important roles.

We are so incredibly blessed to have our secondary students guiding and inspiring our younger learners. Their generosity of spirit and willingness to serve truly reflect the uniqueness of St Luke’s—a community where faith, learning, and leadership come together in a spirit of care and connection.

Together, we create a vibrant, inspiring and caring learning environment for our students.

Kindergarten

Term 4, Week 3

English

In Kindergarten, we have been learning how to be persuasive writers! The children have discovered that persuasive texts are pieces of writing that try to convince someone to agree with their ideas. Through Shared Reading, we have explored examples of persuasive texts and discussed how authors use modality to make their writing more convincing. The students have enjoyed sharing their opinions on topics like, “Should the kid squash the ant?” and expressing their ideas clearly and confidently.

Mathematics

In Kindergarten, we have been busy exploring the world of measurement! The children have been learning to describe and compare the length of different objects using words such as longer and shorter. Through hands-on activities, they have measured and compared items around the classroom — from pencils and ribbons to blocks and books! The students have enjoyed working together to investigate which objects are the longest or shortest, building their mathematical language and understanding in a fun, practical way.

Religion

In Religion, Kindergarten have been learning that each person is a special gift from God and shows God’s presence in the world. The children took part in a beautiful activity where they passed around a mystery box and peeked inside to find something very special that God made — themselves! This led to a lovely discussion about how we are all unique, loved, and created in God’s image. We also enjoyed visiting the new Parish Hall this week, where the students were excited to see the wonderful new space that will bring our school and parish community together.

Creative arts

In Kindergarten this week, we explored the wonderful world of painting! The children learned about different paint strokes and how to mix colours to create new ones. To put their creativity into action, they each painted their favourite place, from sunny beaches to magical forests! It was a colourful, fun-filled week of learning and imagination!

Cyber Safety Incursion

Last Thursday, Stage 1 joined Ollie and Ruby on their exciting online adventures during this term’s Cyber Safety Incursion. While Ollie and Ruby love their screen time, they quickly discover that there’s a lot to learn about staying safe online — just like our Stage 1 students!

The incursion focused on helping students explore what the internet is, how listening to their body can help them recognise early warning signs when something doesn’t feel right online, and how trusted adults can support them in making safe choices.

Using engaging animations and storytelling, the session brought to life real-world online scenarios that encouraged students to think critically about their own screen use and the importance of speaking up when they feel unsure or uncomfortable.

This interactive experience not only taught essential digital safety skills but also empowered our youngest learners to become confident, kind, and responsible members of the online world.

Stage 1

Term 4 Week 3

English

In English, Year Two is beginning to explore poetry and the different language features of this text type. Students have been writing entertaining texts for their peers about their favourite season and their favourite place. We have been focusing on using the five senses to paint a picture with words illustrating what something feels, looks, smells, tastes and sounds like. We have also been exploring what a stanza is and different rhyming patterns used in Poetry. Students have been analysing texts to identify the figurative language and word play used throughout.

Religion - Wizards

At the start of this term in Religion, Year One students began exploring ways they can be peacemakers in the world. They learned about various organisations that promote justice in the community, such as Jesuit Social Services, and connected these examples to our own Faith in Action initiatives like Mini Vinnies. Students also began learning about the Beatitudes and reflected on what it might have been like to be in the perspective of Jesus or his disciples. Year One celebrated their first Stage One Mass in our new school church, where students demonstrated reverence, respect, and active participation.

PDH role plays

This term, Year Two students are exploring their emotions and learning how feelings such as worry, sadness, anger, or distraction can sometimes influence their decision-making and choices. To bring this learning to life, students participated in engaging role plays based on everyday situations like sharing toys or feeling left out at lunchtime. Through these activities, they discussed different problem-solving strategies and reflected on how emotions can affect the way we respond to challenges. We look forward to seeing our Year 2 students continue to grow in their understanding of emotions and in making thoughtful, positive decisions throughout this unit.

Mathematics

Science

In this term’s science  program,  students’ are learning  about the changes that occur on the  earth’s surface over time,  natural processes that cause these changes and sustainable practices that can be adopted to  protect, conserve and sustain planet earth.  Students will be investigating how natural processes and human actions change the Earth’s surface over time as well as what occurs as a result of the interactions between the Earth and the Sun.

Religion

This term, Stage 2 students are exploring what it means to be a hero in our Catholic faith. Through stories of Moses, Jesus’ disciples, and everyday role models, students will be learning that anyone can be a hero by showing kindness, courage, and care for others. They will also be reflecting on how their own gifts can be used to help others and to live out the virtues of faith, hope, and charity.

We have also introduced a new Midday Prayer tradition as a whole-school practice across all stages. Using the Public Address system, this initiative invites our community to pause together each day in prayer, reflection, and unity. Midday Prayer will include a rotation of prayer forms such as Meditation, the Angelus, Lectio Divina, the Rosary, and the St Luke’s College Prayer.

We look forward to continuing to grow together in faith and heroism throughout this term!

Netball Gala Day

In week 1, students from year 2 and stage 2 participated in the netball gala day. The girls showed excellent teamwork and were wonderful representatives of St Luke’s as they played 8 games throughout the day. Although we were not able to win all the games, all participants should be very proud of the accomplishments they have made, including how to play some new positions. We would also like to thank our wonderful high school umpire who helped keep our games running smoothly. Well done girls.
