Principals Message

Dear parents and carers,

As we come to the end of Term One it is always a good thing to reflect on how each of our students has grown. We have collected data on every child in all subject areas to give us a clear picture of each of their learning needs moving into Term Two. We are always observing and listening and giving feedback so each child is receiving what they need at the time.

One of the things parents may not know about the staff is that we celebrate all types of progress and often it is the small achievements that bring us the greatest joy. Every day our students are making steps towards independence.

There is no doubt that learning can be challenging for many children and school is hard work sometimes. But, as I tell the children, “It’s your job!” Success can look so different depending on the child. It may be;

  • Swimming a personal best at the State Carnival
  • Crossing the finish line in their first ever Cross Country event
  • Mastering their pencil grip
  • Building their bank of tricky words
  • Going up a level in reading
  • Standing up for themselves
  • Being able to express how they feel
  • Becoming a better friend
  • Gaining the confidence to ask for help
  • Remembering to zip up their bag
  • Learning their times tables
  • Learning how to work in a group

The list is endless really and there would not be a child in our school who has not made growth in some area. So, as we enter a break period allow your children to have a bit of down time and be proud of what they have achieved. It won’t be long before we are back and ready for the next bout of learning and growing. Thank you for your support in helping us provide the very best learning environment for our students.

Remember to read in the holidays!

ANZAC DAY 2024

St Xavier’s has a very strong tradition in being present in large numbers at the Anzac March. We hope our families support us this year to carry on the tradition. I encourage  all our leaders who are in Gunnedah on the 25th April to lead the school. All students are to wear full summer school uniform and assemble at 10am near Mitre Ten. The staff will be waiting to place them in lines. Please have a drink bottle and hat for each of your children.
