Middle Learning News

Welcome back!

It's been a great first week back. Students have returned with smiles and are ready to learn!

As we reestablished our classroom routines this week, we revisited our agreed-upon classroom expectations. We focused on some social skills, including sharing and patience. Students worked in groups to role-play examples of what this looks like in our classroom.

-Reading Diaries-

You may have noticed a new reading diary in your child's folder. This has sparked some excitement for reading which has been wonderful to see. A friendly reminder to record your child's nightly reading efforts in here. Thanks to those who have already done so.

-Inquiry Project-

Last term, through the lens of identity, we explored the attributes of great learners. This week, students have been given the opportunity to represent their learning in their own way. I've been amazed by the creativity that has been presented. Some examples include the learning rainbow, a recipe for a great learner displayed through a cooking show, news reports, a panel on a TV show and even a learning zoo. We look forward to seeing the final products.

-Mathematics-

This week students dived into mathematics problems that required both self-direction and problem-solving skills. They were given problems involving addition and subtraction, students quickly discovered the use of concrete materials and drawing pictures helped them grasp the essence of each problem.

-Connection-

On the last day of Term One, students were given the opportunity to play, create, explore with the idea of connection in their minds. At the end of the session, we came together to discuss some of the creations that were made. Some similar themes were presented, which included friendship, family, connection to nature, Aboriginal Peoples, and our Catholic faith.

As we explore the concept of Connection in this term, we will use these themes to direct our learning. On Tuesday, we were able to be part of the F.I.R.E. carrier commissioning which was a beautiful way to kickstart this learning. To add to this, Delilah very kindly gave everyone in the group a friendship necklace. Each piece has a jigsaw joining together to make a star. Students identified the necklace as a way to symbolise their friendship, bond and link to one another.

We thank the Shiels family for this kind gesture.

We also celebrated the birthday of our wonderful Sam this week.

Along with Mahveen and Connor who celebrated their birthdays over the break.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Miss Gab
