This week is Holy Week, the time between Jesus’ arrival into Jerusalem in triumph, riding on a Donkey followed by crowds of his faithful followers, and his cruel death on the Cross, mocked by those around him and abandoned by the vast majority of those who had cheered him only a few days earlier.
The distance between triumph and tragedy is sometimes not that great. In Jesus’ case, it was only a matter of days. Our lives are often marked by triumphs and tragedies - in most cases, not as great as that faced by Jesus, but nonetheless, still significant for us and those around us. Hopefully, we all have more triumphs than tragedies in our lives!
Since Ash Wednesday, six weeks ago, students and staff at our school have marked the Lenten season, the time of preparation for Holy Week and Easter with a range of activities including Masses and other liturgies, such as the Stations of the Cross, as well as raising money for Project Compassion. We have participated in Masses (whole school and individual classes), retreats, games days and a range of other activities that have helped to focus our attention on this Lenten season. Thank you to everyone who has been involved, whether it is by being part of our music ministry at Masses, or simply buying a ticket in the Easter Egg raffle, raising money for Project Compassion.
Another way in which students have demonstrated commitment to service is through the Assistant Catechist program. Thirty Year 10 students have volunteered to assist our Parish Catechists teaching scripture in state schools in Armidale. This program will kick off after the Easter break, and the three schools we are visiting (Ben Venue, Martin’s Gully and Sandon) are very keen to have our students working with their children in their scripture programs.
In conclusion, I’d like to share a short Easter prayer with you, wishing you all a happy, holy and safe Easter break.
Heavenly Father and God of mercy,we no longer look for Jesus among the dead, for He is alive and has become the Lord of Life. From the waters of death, you raise us with Him and renew your gift of life within us.
Increase in our minds and hearts the risen life we share with Christ and help us to grow as your people toward the fullness of eternal life with you. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen

Keeping in touch with what is happening in the Cathedral Parish is easy through their website and Facebook pages.
With such a difficult year and a half it has been harder for parishioner's to give to the parish through the plates, particularly when the church is closed as it is at present. The Parish account details are available on the Parish bulletin.
