Laura Hughes
Pathways Coordinator
On Monday 4 March, Year 11 experienced the Meet the Job panel discussion as part of Year 11 Home Group curriculum. The speakers were varied, and all had really interesting career pathways.
Meet the Job is a great way to help students to understand that there are many roads that can be followed on their learning and career pathways. While some students may progress directly into the studies and career path that they choose after high school, just as many may find their journey follows an alternate route from their original plan, or that they may choose to detour along the way! Our Meet the Job speakers shared their unique journeys with us - proving that everyone can find their way to the career that satisfies them best.
On behalf of the staff and students, I extend my sincere gratitude to George, Jessie, Matthew and Mariana for generously volunteering to share their time with us.
Their presentations were most interesting, enlightening and entertaining.
George Hatzimanolis - Chief Executive Officer at Repurpose It, a company focused on innovative technology that turns “untreatable waste” into quality usable products.
Jessie Upton - a neurodivergent artist, facilitator, systems and service designer, and creative art therapist. Currently, Jessie is the Visitor Experience Manager at Melbourne Recital Centre, a major live music venue.
Dr Matthew Siebel - a General Dentist at Coburg Dental Group. Matt focuses on patient care, general restorative treatment, and orthodontics.
Dr Mariana Paulino - a Senior Lecturer and the Course Director of the Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering program at Deakin University.

The Meet the Job expo was incredibly fascinating.
Hearing the speakers talk about their passions was really insightful, especially listening to the diverse range of pathways that each speaker took to get into their field and what they had learned along the way. George, Jessie, Mariana and Matthew were immensely helpful in answering our questions and providing new perspectives into future career pathways, and their contributions helped open my eyes to possibilities I had never considered before.
Overall it was a great, thought-provoking experience that I would recommend to all students going forward!
