Principal's Message to the School Community

Dear KPS families,

I have very much enjoyed my Acting Principal role which finishes at the end of this term when Alistair returns from his well-deserved break. I would like to thank the many school community members and colleagues who wished me well and gave encouraging feedback – your support is greatly appreciated.

On Thursday 21st March the new School Council held its Annual General Meeting where an election was held for Office Bearers. All nominees were unopposed and duly appointed. We are grateful to Katy McGrath, our new School Council President, Sarah Dilnot, our Vice President, Stephen Sheppard, our Treasurer and Samantha Lewis our Secretary, for their willingness to step into these important roles.

This week we had a visit from representatives of the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) which means we are one step closer to having our school oval rejuvenated! Stay tuned for further information on this.

The two-week NAPLAN period is now complete. Congratulations to our Year 3 and 5 students who participated and completed the assessments to the best of their ability. Student feedback ranged from “It was fun!” to “It was a bit of a challenge for me, but it was ok” and “Not as bad as I thought it would be.”

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our wonderful Parents and Friends Group who used a significant portion of the funds raised last year to purchase several sets of high-quality evidence-based student books which will support our Early Years learners and those with specific learning disorders such as dyslexia. The task of processing and covering these books is now complete and the books are being utilised in classrooms and in intervention groups.

Our Years 1-6 swimming program is now complete. Many thanks to the family members who came to the pool to assist their own child and others with the putting on of swimming caps, goggles etc! Our Foundation students will be swimming next term and we would again appreciate the support of family members at the pool to assist with dressing, goggles, swimming caps etc.

Please remember that if you would like to volunteer your time to assist in any school activity, it is reasonably simple to apply for a Working with Children Check online.
