NSW Touch Football development

Tuesday the 19th of March we had two NSW Touch Football development officers work with four different groups across years 7 and 8. The students were put through some drills to enhance their skills and awareness of the game. Year 8 students were lucky enough to have a two block during sport of development and really benefited from this expert tuition. The students were really engaged and loved learning and enhancing their skills of such a great game. We are looking forward to taking these students to the NSW Touch Football New England Zone Gala Day in Inverell on Thursday the 28th of March.

15's Girls Soccer - 26 March

The 15’s Girls soccer team took on Guyra Central School in Round 1 of the Bill Turner Trophy competition.

With the home team advantage, the Glen girls took on Guyra with solid defence and lots of attacking shots at the goals. With plenty of subs, the Glen Innes girls continued through the whole 1hr game with relentless tenacity, coming away with a 9-0 win.

It was a whole team effort with some more experienced players leading our younger year 7’s very well.

Huge congratulations to the team and a big Thankyou to Billie who scored and our officials Beth, Ben and Damon in which the game wouldn’t have been able to run without these students giving up their time to assist.

The team will now take on Tenterfield in round 2 early next term.

NSW Touch Gala Day - 28 March

Wow what a big day!

Three GIHS teams played their hearts out at the NSW TOUCH GALA DAY today in Inverell!

The 7/8s girls were successful in ALL of their games and won their FINAL 2-1 against Armidale. Woo Hoo!

Huge thanks to Amelia Levy-Blair who coached the girls today and managed them beautifully! We are so appreciative of Amelias efforts, hard work and expertise in the field of touch. Without her today we could not have fielded this team!

Ella Bruce , Paige Floyd, Imogen Biddle, Pippa Tawa, Brooklyn Elliott, Ruby Grob, Ava Williams, Polly Voysey, Billie James, Olivia Wilkins, Olivia Butterworth, Aila McBain, Piper McLaren, Jessica Packer, Mia Sak and MYLIE DOUST named as MVP!

The 7/8 Boys Jordan Watts, Ethan Graham, Rocco Eastwood, Pat Wright, Aden McBain, Dustin McBain, Lachlan Green, Lachlan Grob, Charlie Templeton, Hunta Ferris, Gus Rosso- Taylor, Mav Burgess, Loki Schultz, Max Eastwood, Horatio Eastwood, Cooper Ward, Charlie Hoskins with JORDAN WATTS named as MVP!

This large pack of lads played their hearts out in all of their games and really proved that they have what it takes to commit to their best effort. With all players making the field at some stage over the course of three games it really was a mass team effort. The more experienced players shone and I was also impressed with the way the older boys lead the younger and more developing players. That mentoring and friendship is such a great thing about a day like today. The boys won all three of their games …..against Inverell 8-1, MacIntyre 4-2 and Armidale 5-3. Although they won all their games they had to back up to play a FINAL! They faced Armidale in a re-match in the final and unfortunately went down 4-3. Well done to the Armidale team who played well! Bad luck to our boys!

The 9/10s Boys also had a great day. With less subs their fitness was tested however they proved themselves…well and truly! Thanks to Richard Taylor for his experienced coaching and assisting this team with strategy and motivation. They improved every match which was proven in the closely matched final.

McCauley Green, Connor Grob, LLoyd Newberry, Jake Bruce, Leo Eastwood, Jaydan Obrien, Blake Duddy, Bradley Hoskins, Will Wright and Ethan Graham (and Jordan also played for them for one game….) And MACAULEY Green

named as MVP! They fought hard in all their games just going down to a strong Inverell side and winning convincingly against MacIntyre. The boys had a re-match against Inverell High in the Final which went to an exciting drop off. Inverell slipped through our defence when it was 4 on 4 to win by one try.

The whole day was very worthwhile and has so many positive outcomes for all of these students.

The 7/8s girls team will progress to the next gala day and we are hoping for a wild card entry for the other two sides

It would be great to keep the touch football vibe and passion growing as we certainly have some talent and motivated young people. The bus is absolutely FULL - every seat! And I’m happy to organise a day such as this for our Glen Innes High School Athletes.

Happy Easter everyone!
