We had a fabulous Cultural Banquet for Harmony Day where many students made, brought and bought Asian cuisine, drinks and snacks. Our topic this term has been ‘Passport to Asia’ where students have studied mostly China and Japan. It was wonderful to see students tasting new food and discussing ingredients that go into dishes, desserts and drinks. Not everyone has the same taste when it comes to food but it certainly opens up a cultural conversation and new experience for some students. We would like to sincerely thank those families who provided food, drinks, cups, bowls etc. because it helped to make a beautiful banquet and was much appreciated. A fun albeit messy lesson for our cohort of 73 students. We especially thank Infinity Asian Groceries for their generous donations and kind sponsorship of this meaningful cultural experience.

Paragraph 1 (Kirra Woods):

On Thursday we had a banquet where we were asked to bring in food from a country in Asia to learn about and try the food from there. It was really fun and the food was good and interesting to try. There were drinks, including coconut water and tea, snacks of chips, dim sims, spring rolls, stir fry and sweet things like doughnuts and Filipino fruit salad. In class, we have been learning about a certain country in Asia per class and for our assignment, we are writing a children’s book including/based on that country.

Paragraph 2 (Emma Bicknell):

Year 8 English is learning about different Asian cultures. On Harmony Day, year 8 held a banquet of all the different cultural foods of Asia. I found that it was interesting to learn about the different foods that there were. It is really good to try other cultural foods. It was really fun. I think we should do it again
