Apprenticeship Sign-Up News

Two New Barbering Apprenticeship Sign-ups at Tommy Guns

It was wonderful to see Tommy Guns Barbershop take on both Luke Speedy and Henry Waters in their Barbering Apprenticeship. It was wonderful to have parents and the area Manager of Tommy Guns supporting the students on their new adventure.

Well done boys and we look forward to seeing developing your skills in this trade area.

Marine Apprenticeship Sign-up at Cruise Craft

Congratulations to Lachlan Berwick from Year 12 who was recently signed up as an apprentice Marine Mechanic with Mark Vowell at Cruise Craft in Hemmant. We thank Mark for giving Lachlan this opportunity and for offering to showcase his industry’s craft at the Beyond Marist Futures Expo on May 22nd. Look out for the Cruise Craft boat display – it'll be awesome! We’re looking forward to seeing Lachlan demonstrate some of his newly acquired skills on the day.

School-based Apprenticeships/ Traineeships (SATs)

Students who are interested in school-based apprenticeships and traineeships are responsible for sourcing their own opportunities. A good starting point is to complete work experience, which is now open for term two and the June-July holidays. If any opportunities arise from potential employers' emails, the Careers office will advertise them in the notices. Typically, apprenticeships and traineeships are started in Years 11 or 12.

School-based Apprenticeships and traineeships usually require one day per week on the worksite, except for electrical, which requires two days. This is a significant commitment for students.

If a Year 10 student finds a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship, they will need to have an interview with the Head of College to confirm that this is the right decision for them and their education.

Year 11 and 12 students are expected to complete a meeting with Mrs Gooley to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that outlines the requirements for having an apprenticeship or traineeship.

Students must complete 90 days of probation with the company before negotiating a study line with the Academic Care team. Year 10 students will not be given a study line; this only occurs in years 11 and 12 after completing the probation period.

The following is a link to further information about School-based Apprenticeships and Traineeships.
