Learning and Teaching
Some great Maths learning was spotted around the school over the last fortnight!!
Many lessons across the school focused on counting and place value in order to build a solid foundation of numbers before moving onto other numbers concepts e.g. addition and subtraction.

Number Rolls have been used in some levels as a warm-up activity before starting the Daily Review. They are a great and simple way to see if students are able to count forwards and backwards from various starting points and to ascertain whether they can bridge over to the next 10. Teachers are also able to take note of number formation and assist students if necessary.
Mini Whiteboards are being used consistently in all year levels to ensure that all students have the opportunity to respond to the learning in Maths and Literacy. This is usually during the Guided Practice (We Do stage) where students think, respond and apply new knowledge, while receiving immediate feedback. It helps to keep every learner engaged and allows teachers to quickly see who is confident and who may need a little extra support.

Even our Year 3/4 parents enjoyed the use of them during our Curriculum Night last week when we gave them the opportunity to respond to what they had learnt during the session.

Students have also had the opportunity for Independent Practice (I Do stage), the use of concrete materials and games to develop understanding, fluency and automaticity of maths concepts.

What a great start to learning it has been so far. I have enjoyed walking around the school, visiting classes during Maths time, participating in the learning, modelling lessons, hearing students talk about their learning and working with some students.
