At the end of last term Angela Foley from Merri Creek Management Committee ran an incursion with the whole school during our Engaging with Place sessions. We learned about the formation of Merri Creek, about the Wurundjeri seasonal calendar and about the small animals in Baanj Biik (Water Country) including the introduced Gambusia, Damselfly larvae and Caddis fly larvae and Growling Grass Frog and plants that we can find near Merri Creek including garrong (wattle), turrun (sheoak) and buath (kangaroo grass).
We will be observing and celebrating NAIDOC Week at the start of this term and will use the texts ‘Come Together’ by Isaiah Firebrace and ‘Our Home, Our Heartbeat’ by Adam Briggs to support our learning.
