 Musical Instrument Making!

Our Foundation and Year 1 students have been busy exploring the concepts of light and sound. As part of their learning journey, they have embarked on a creative project: making musical instruments from recycled materials. This project not only reinforces their understanding of sound production but also encourages creativity and environmental consciousness. Be sure to check next week’s newsletter to see the final products of their hard work and innovation!

Year 2/3

Hello Families,

We had part two of the Talent Show last week and more to continue this week. Below are some photo's of some of the children who we are so proud of for showing courage and sharing their talents. Last week, in one of our Well Being lessons we role-played scenarios that have happened on the playground and the restorative conversations that teachers have with children. The playground can be a place of fun, imagination and joy. At times, it can be challenging for children and this is why we are focusing on managing emotions in the playground as well as in the classroom. Please enjoy the photos below and ask your children about it. Stay warm and safe over the weekend.

Year 3/4

Fortnite by Sai

Fortnite is one of the most popular video games and it’s a battle royale. You probably heard about Fortnite before or you have played it before.

How Fortnite become popular?

In 2018 Fortnite was pretty good and even youtubers started playing it,

One day a streamer named Ninja was playing Fortnite and Drake wanted to play with Ninja. Then Ninja played pretty good and Drake decided to donate $20K to Ninja and later Ninja is a popular Fortnite twitch streamer.

How to win?

Winning a Fortnite game is a bit hard because you’re playing against 99 players. The best way of winning a game is hiding in the train until the third zone so that the vault opens and you can loot it and win.

Aim and mechanics

To have the best aim and mechanics you have to practise and have the best reactions. It only takes 1 day to crank 90’s (to build faster). It’s actually hard to have a good aim because if you don't have a good mouse it’s hard and you get used to it if you shoot more and build more.

Rise and failure of Fortnite

Fortnite became popular when the lockdown started because people had nothing to do and everybody started to play or watch Fortnite. Chapter 2 was released and it was at its peak in lockdown. After the pandemic everybody was back to normal and Chapter 4 was released and it was sooooo bad.

How is it used?

Kids use lego because they can build all sorts of things such as houses, cars and trees. You need add brick to each other to make the different items. Bricks are put on top of each other.

A squishmallow is like a teddy and can be in different sizes.

What do Squishmallow look like?

There are many different styles of squishmallows. They can be animals, food or a drink. They are fluffy inside.

What can you do with a squishmallow

You can squish, cuddle, hug and sleep with it.

Different sizes

The 24 inch is the largest squishmallow. The 7.5 inch is the smallest one, a mini. The 12 inch is a small squishmallow. The 16 inch is a medium size squishmallow.

History

In Los Angeles, California, Jonathan Kelly founded them in 1986. Kelly actually came up with the idea for squishmallows after being inspired by a trip to Japan. Squishmallows are very popular to collect. Lots of people get squishmallows for decoration or just to play with.

Squishmallows are very popular so I think you can get one at Kmart.

Year 4/5

In this week's religion, we have been learning about Confirmation. In Confirmation we choose a sponsor to stand beside us to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. A sponsor guides us as we take our final vows as young adults in God’s family. Lauren Aguelo

In Religion we have been talking about Confirmation. This week we talked about the gifts of the Holy Spirit. There are seven gifts, wisdom, understanding, counsel, knowledge, fortitude, wonder and awe. When you receive the sacrament of confirmation, we use all of these gifts in our life going forward as faithful followers of Christ. For me, I think I would use the gifts of Knowledge or Courage because I would use knowledge to help other people and the courage to stand up and do the right thing. We also learnt about the symbols of the Holy Spirit. My favourite one is fire because it has a very special and interesting story. I love learning about Confirmation and I can’t wait until I receive the sacrament. Aleisha Rajkumar

This week in religion our class had been learning about the third sacrament, confirmation. In a few weeks some grade 5s and 6s will be making their confirmation but first all we need is a bishop to accept us to make our confirmation. Wondering what's a bishop? Don't worry, I'll be here to tell you what's  a bishop. So basically a bishop is kind of like a priest but the bishop does something else higher than the priest so the role that the bishop has is to bless people in the confirmation therefor the bishop is higher than the priest.

Confirmation

Send Down the Fire!
Send Down the Fire!

Some of our senior students are preparing for the final Sacrament of Initiation into the Catholic faith, and that is the Sacrament of Confirmation. It completes the three important Sacraments undertaken by our students, including Baptism and Eucharist. On Friday, 26th of July,  our children will stand before their faith community and announce that they confirm their belonging to the Catholic Church. It is a powerful and significant occasion. They are learning about the Fruits and Gifts of the Holy Spirit as well as researching Saints who they may like to take as a Name as part of the ceremony. Also, next week,  they will receive a visit from Bishop Terry to discuss what the Sacrament means as a Catholic, which is really exciting.

Super silly sausages, I've told you a million times to take notice! It's as if you're as silly as a wheel (or as deaf as a post!) You are the brightest of stars, I know. Just reach for the stars and you'll get it. The air is thinking 'will they get it all correct?' Make a splash, you'll get it right!

As part of Writer's Notebook this week we have been looking at ways in which we can improve our writing and make it more interesting for the reader. Here are the students understandings and examples….enjoy!

Numeracy ~ Division and Multiplication

Maths over these past few weeks has seen the students deepening their understanding of the relationship between division and multiplication. Learning the Italian Lattice method, as well as looking at Fact Families, Short and Long Division and 2 x 2 digit multiplication, the students are understanding the explicit nature of learning, as described by the well known idiom....PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!!
