G2's STEM Challenge: Marble Run Creations

Last month, G2 embarked on an exciting STEM challenge to design and build their very own marble runs! Using a variety of materials, the students showcased their creativity and problem-solving skills.  They were tasked with designing and building a marble run with the goal to have the marble take as long as possible to reach the bottom.

Each marble run was unique, demonstrating their understanding of physics and their ability to work collaboratively. It was a fantastic hands-on learning experience that everyone enjoyed!  It was extremely pleasing to see everyone working well together. Everyone demonstrated great creativity and resilience throughout the project.

Y5 - Australian Animals

The IELC students in Y5 have been recently learning about the Native Animals of Australia. We have learnt how to find information in books and on the internet. We have also learnt how to write an Information Report.

We used the information that we have learnt and made models of the Australian animals in their natural habitats. We have also made turtles using wool to weave their bodies onto the pop sticks.

Australian Animals - R2

The students in R2 have been learning English vocabulary around the theme of Australian animals. We began our unit by participating in activities to help us learn the names of different animals.  We looked at a range of real-life photos, information books and videos to discover their habitats, features and behaviours. Then we looked at the structure of an information report and learnt how to organise animal facts under appropriate headings. Below are some of the activities we completed in our unit.

Reading Activities - O2

In O2 the students have been exploring Joy Cowley's book collection, using these stories to spark their creativity and learning. They have been engaged in creating sentences inspired by the characters and events in the books. This has been a fantastic way for them to practice their language skills while immersing themselves in imaginative storytelling. Another highlight has been our story table, where students have been enacting their favourite stories from Joy Cowley's collection.

NAIDOC Week

At the end of Term 2, we celebrated NAIDOC week.  We celebrated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, history, traditions, art and achievements.

We engaged with activities across the school which celebrated our First Nations peoples. Students painted rocks for our school garden, made Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flag inspired bracelets, learnt about traditional dot paintings techniques and socialised with peers and our broader community at our whole school NAIDOC week BBQ on Tuesday 2 July.

Health with Ms Kathryn

In Health the Early Years classes have been learning all about BELONGING and INCLUSION. We have learnt about what it means to belong and how we can help others to feel a sense of belonging. We learnt about respect and looked at how we can show respect and kindness to everyone. To finish off our learning the students were asked to write and/or draw one strategy we can use to be a good friend to others, and added it as a leaf to the "Friendship Tree" in the Health class.

This final product looks beautiful and is so filled with kindness.  I am so proud of the efforts of our students!
