DISCO TIME!

Last Friday, we had the best time altogether at the School Disco! We danced the time away freestyle, had a few singalongs and of course a few group dances such as the Nutbush and the Macarena. Thank you to the Parent’s Association for putting it on for us!!

Reading

For the last few weeks in our Reader’s Workshop sessions, we have been taking a closer look at what we are reading, thinking deeply about and analysing the texts we are reading. We have considered different perspectives and asked ourselves why we think certain language and ideas were presented. We’ve been doing a lot of talking, a lot of listening to each other’s ideas and building on them. This week, we have started a two week unit about The Lorax, analysing and thinking deeply about this book together. Photos courtesy of Alex and Charlotte.

Writing

These last few weeks have turned us into Level Four poets! We started with looking at different devices poets use to add rhythm and meaning to poems such as rhyme, repetition, similes, metaphors and imagery. We have read and written some very entertaining poems as a result! This week we are moving to composing diamante poems and limericks, which will let us not only work on our beautiful word choices but also let our hilarious and zany sides show! Poets featured are Burhan C, Olivia, Zahra, Alfred, Lelio, Adele and Jhanvi.

Maths

Maths has been a blast at the moment, with games galore to help us build on our knowledge of decimal place value. We have worked in teams to challenge each other and build each other up, having a heap of fun in the meantime!

Inquiry

We are loving this Inquiry unit, getting to know our Local Government and the laws they create and enforce. In groups, we all chose a law and created a short clip, designed to teach others of our age about this law. There was a great deal of Digital Technology learning involved, getting the perfect iPad angles, making sure everyone could be seen and heard, then sharing the clip with our group members and uploading it to Google Classroom. There are most definitely some budding actors, screen writers and directors among us! We are also working on becoming Town Planners, pretending we are part of a new local government, set the task to build a council area from scratch.
