MERC Camp 2024

From  Wednesday 29th to Friday 31st May, the Year 4-6 had their camp at MERC Long Bay.

Day One: We arrived at Long Bay Wednesday morning to be greeted by pouring rain. Luckily we were allowed to enter the campsite early. In between showers the children were able to go for a quick hike around Long Bay, before coming back to start their camp experience.

Our first day was filled with team building games and survival skills activities.  The day ended with sorting out our dorms and a movie.

Day two: We were greeted by a beautiful sunrise. This day was action packed, full of activities. We rotated around biking, paddle boarding and Giants ladder.

Lots of children exceeded expectation by climbing to the top of the Giants ladder with their partner.

Some children learnt to ride a bike, while others got to go on a biking adventure around Long Bay.

For paddle boarding the children learnt how to use a paddle while standing up and when out in the ocean they got to see little jellyfish and even a eagle ray.

Our day ended with a play down at the beach, a night walk and a movie with milo.

Day three: We woke to another beautiful day. The morning was spent busy getting stuff packed and sorted before our last activity which was surf skills.  Each group got to come up with a new group name and chant. We headed to the beach for relay races, tug a war, sandcastle building, tunnelling under a canoe and team building activities.

We spent the rest of the morning cleaning and packing the cars. After lunch we said our goodbyes and returned back to school.

It was a successful camp. The children were awesome, we were very proud of them.  Nothing stopped them from giving every challenge a go.

EOTC - Junior School

We had a wonderful three days of EOTC. On Thursday, Omine kept us busy with fire building, donut making, flax weaving, stories and interesting things to touch and feel as well as instruments to play.

We loved learning new games, trying tricky tasks, competing an obstacle course and making the food to share with our whanau at the Teddy Bear's Picnic.

Thank you for those who joined us and celebrated the last day of EOTC.
