Kings Park Campus Principal Message

Welcome to Winter on Campus! It certainly has been a cold end to the semester.

Students and their families attended the Year 9 and 10 Pathways Information Evening on Thursday 23rd of May. Students and their nominated counsellors will be discussing Pathways options in the coming months. Parents and families are invited to participate in these discussions that will culminate in Course Finalisation Days in August. Choosing subjects and deciding on Pathways options are exciting milestones for students and we encourage students to dream big and follow your passion.

Year 10 Exams took place last week. Thank you to Kylie Brookshaw and Heath Simpson for their organisation of the exam timetable and for the informative assemblies held last week. Students are now well prepared for what to expect during the exam period. Students undertaking a VCE subject in their Year 10 program completed those exams at the Delahey Campus. Year 9 students completed their exams last week, also

Our Semester 1 Music Concert took place on Thursday June 6th at the Bowery Theatre. This was another great opportunity for students to showcase their musical talents. Thank you to the Performing Arts Team for their support and hard work in preparing students for the evening.

The Campus has recently had an ‘influx’ of enrolments at all year levels. This includes six international students and seven from WELS (Western English Language School). WELS provides newly arrived students with their first experience of an Australian school. Students attend WELS for an intensive program in English Language prior to enrolment in a mainstream setting.

We are also busy working with primary school colleagues in supporting the transition of students from Grade 6 to Year 7. We will report on the collegiate activities planned at our next School Council Meeting. It is worth noting our Scholarships Program for 2025 Year 7 students.

Luba Grigorovitch MP, Member for Kororoit, who attended our Breakfast Club recently. Luba made a number of social media posts following her visit and she has promised to include us in her next Parliamentary Speech.  We are currently working with Luba to facilitate a campus visit next term by Ben Carroll, Deputy Premier and Minister for Education.

The Breakfast Club has been in operation for more than 15 years at the Kings Park Campus and more than 45 students each day. Thank you to Mary Scott (from the Student Wellbeing Team) for coordinating the Breakfast Club at the Kings Park Campus.

There have been a number of events on the campus this term, including IDAHOBIT Day, and Cultural Day (the later for UNICEF: Children Impacted by War). IDAHOBIT Day is the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT). Copperfield College is proud to celebrate this annual day and embrace diversity within our school community. As a College we endeavour to foster supportive, safe, empowering and inclusive environments at each of our campuses.

For the first time, eligible students at each junior campus were offered free dental care checks and necessary general treatments. This was viaSmile Patrol’. The checks took place a school during regular hours through a mobile dental service.

Last week, the commissioned artwork (Mural) for the ‘Hackathon Project’ was completed. We have had students, as part of our Advance Program, working with the theme ‘Healthy Lifestyles’ since early 2023. Thank you to Nick Taseski and Josh Dench for their leadership of the project.

Our Campus Intermediate Girls Softball Team participated recently and qualified for the State Grand Final. We were undefeated in the qualifying matches. This included defeating Brentwood Secondary College, the 2023 Victorian State Champions. It was a fantastic team effort. Thank you to Nick Bavcar who coached the Team.

One of our many extra-curricular programs includes Pet Therapy at Kings Park. This year we have invited students that would benefit from support with emotional regulation. We have found out pet therapy sessions improve the overall mood of our students and increases their feelings of safety at school. Here we show a picture of our Great Dane, “Leo”.

We wish all our staff, students and families a restful enjoyable and safe term break.
