LTU Regional Pathways Program Update

Albury-Wodonga Campus

The Regional Pathways Program is a regional initiative that aims to address the disparity in higher education participation and attainment between regional and metropolitan areas. It focuses on increasing educational engagement among senior secondary school students by providing them with workshops on topics such as study skills, literacy support, wellbeing, and career pathways including university.

Vision:

Our goal is to improve educational outcomes for regional students and increase community awareness of the positive impact further education has on local development.

This Week's Workshop

The workshop that the Regional Pathways Program team ran through with student this week was about exam preparation. They covered topics such as:

  • Tracking and completing practice exams
  • Ways to break down exam questions
  • The importance of embracing and learning from mistakes

Students received resources to help them track their practice exams and to practice reflecting on practice exams and their progress. The Regional Pathways Program team also shared some of their go-to study techniques, and emphasised the importance of remembering that useful study techniques are unique to the individual.

Important Dates and Events

Some important dates and events coming up include:

  • Monday the 29th of July: VTAC applications open for students. For more information on VTAC and applying, follow this link: How to apply (vtac.edu.au)
  • The month of August: Many university Open Days occur.

University Open Days

University Open Days are a great opportunity for students and their families to see what different university campuses are like, meet some of the academics in a student's interested field, and get a sense of what studying at the university might be like before deciding to attend that university.

Some tips the Regional Pathways Program team recommends to get the most out of university Open Days include:

  • Note down any questions you have about a course or the university.
  • Take note of what locations on the campus you would like to see (e.g., Library, on-campus accommodation, etc.).
  • If available, take some time to meet and talk with some of the university academics.
