Year 5 and 6

Grade 5 - Ryan Condron, Sally Dyett, Kerryn McConachy, Damon Webb, Chris Bird

Grade 6 - Al Straughan, Gill Prentice, Alison Clark, George Samothrakitis

Year 6 Bike Hike

The Year 6 Bike Hike is planned for Monday December 9 (weather permitting). It is always a highlight of the year for the 6's, as the students get to put their newly learnt skills into practise as well as enjoying a sausage sizzle lunch. Please keep an eye on your emails for further information.

Year 6 Transition Day

Tuesday December 10 is the date for the statewide Year 7 Transition Day for students going to a government secondary school. Please note that students are not to come to school that day, they are to go directly to their school for 2025. If your child is not going to a government school (and therefore don't have their Transition Day on that day), they are able to come to school as normal.

Year 6 FunFields

Permission for the Grade 6 Excursion to FunFields on Wednesday December 11 is now on Compass. All the information required for the day will be emailed to parents next week. Please note that no payment is required.

Year 6 Graduation

We are looking forward to an amazing night on Monday December 16. More information will be forthcoming, but please plan for students to arrive from 5:00 for dinner, and parents to arrive from 6:30 for a 7:00 start to the ceremony. We have been learning the dance (always a highlight) and have spoken to students about clothing requirements and how the evening will run.

School Magazine: Vermont Views

The Vermont Views magazine is available for purchase for $15. This is a great keepsake of 'the year that was' and a fun way to track your child's journey through their school years. The magazine has every 2024 class included, special items from the specialist subjects, and a reflection from the student leaders and the Principals.

Orders can now be placed through the Compass Parent Portal, under the Shop Menu. To access the Shop Menu from the app, click the ‘More’ button at bottom right of screen. Then click on the 'Shop' tile.

If you would like to purchase a copy, you will need to do it before it closes on the 6th of December 2024.

Year 5 Maths

This term our Year 5 students have been enjoying many hands on Maths Investigations. This one is called ‘Painted Cubes’ where students had to investigate algebra, properties of cubes and volume!

Library

As the end of the year speeds up, we have ceased borrowing from the library. Could all parents check for any library books that may have ended up under beds, hidden in shelves and in toy boxes please? Please return to the Library as soon as possible.

Year 5 Kris Kringle

It is a tradition that students are invited to participate in Kris Kringle on the end-of-year class party day. This involves purchasing a gift for another student and keeping the giver’s identity secret. Please note that this is not a compulsory activity. If you know that your child will not be present at school on Class Party Day or you do not want your child involved in this activity, please email your child’s teacher as soon as possible so they can provide alternative arrangements.

If your child will be involved in the Kris Kringle, please ensure a present is wrapped, clearly labelled with the recipient’s name, and handed directly to the teacher by Wednesday 11th December so that they can account for each student in the class.

Teachers will inform you about class parties within the next few weeks. These will take place between recess and lunch on the 18th December.

How much: $10

End Of Year

Could all parents please email their child’s classroom teacher(s) if they will be going away before the end of the year. This will help teachers immensely in the organisation of Transition Day, Class Parties and other December activities.

Thursday 12th December - Year 5 IMAX excursion AND Carols on the Lawn

This will be a VERY busy day, as not only will the Year 5’s be travelling to Imax in the city, we will ALSO be holding our Carols on the Lawn, where the Vermont Primary School Community will be getting into the Christmas Spirit by listening (and singing along to) all the students singing their prepared Christmas Carols.

Please ensure you have completed permission and payment on the Compass portal for the Imax excursion.
