The last few weeks of Prep ...
It’s hard to believe that 2024 is already coming to a close – it feels like just yesterday that our Preps were starting school, full of excitement and curiosity. Now, as the year draws to a close, they are ready to take on the next chapter of their adventure in Grade 1.
This year has been a journey filled with growth, learning and cherished memories. We are immensely proud of everything the Preps have achieved, and we’ve treasured every moment spent together.
As we wrap up the year, we reflect on the many exciting events we’ve enjoyed in the last few weeks. However, we feel it’s only right to begin with the most important event of all – bidding farewell to our beloved Mrs. Barnden.
Farewell Mrs Barnden
On Tuesday 17th December, we gathered for a very special assembly to celebrate the incredible 16 years of dedication and love that Mrs. Barnden has given to Wonga Park. The afternoon began with a beautiful guard of honour, where students lined up to show their appreciation for her. The Preps then dedicated a special performance of 'In My Life' by The Beatles.
Mrs. Barnden has been an essential part of the Prep team, nurturing and inspiring hundreds of students along the way. Her kindness, passion and dedication have made a lasting impact on our school community, and she will be dearly missed by all of us.
As she embarks on the next exciting chapter of her life in retirement, we wish her all the very best for her new adventures.
Thank you for everything, Mrs. Barnden. Your impact on our school community, especially in Prep, is immeasurable, and you will always hold a special place in our hearts.
Swimming Program
In the last week of November, the Preps dived into their one-week swimming program at Croydon Memorial Pool. While Monday brought a bit of a chilly start, we were lucky with the weather, enjoying sunshine and blue skies for the rest of the week!
The first four days focused on building swimming skills and on Friday, the Preps enjoyed the 'Survival Skills' day. Throughout the week, they showed wonderful resilience – braving the cooler temperatures, dressing themselves independently and looking after their belongings like pros.
A huge thank you to our wonderful parent helpers, who were on hand each day to lend a hand (and a towel or two). All in all, it was a fun and successful week of swimming, with plenty of laughter, learning, and splashing around!
Buddy Christmas Picnic
On a beautiful afternoon, the Preps and Grade 6s gathered one last time under the Oak Tree for a special Christmas picnic. The Grade 6s treated their little buddies to a delicious lunch, creating a festive atmosphere. Afterwards, they exchanged thoughtfully chosen gifts, sharing the spirit of the season. It was a truly lovely afternoon, filled with laughter and joy!
Christmas Carols
On Monday 9th December, our school community came together for a wonderful evening of Christmas carols, and what a night it was! The Preps looked absolutely amazing in their festive outfits, sparkling with holiday cheer. They took to the stage with confidence and sang two songs - 'When Santa Got Stuck up the Chimney' and 'Frosty the Snowman'. The evening was made even more special by the bright, shining sun and, of course, a surprise visit from Santa! It was a lovely night and the perfect way to kick off the festive season!
Fun Day In - School Disco!
On Tuesday 17th December, our school community kicked off the holiday season with our Fun Day In, filled with laughter and excitement. We began with the Silent Disco, where Tim led us in some silent singing and loud dancing! We then headed to the basketball court for a fun session of bubbles and playing with rainbow ribbon wands, filling the air with colour and joy. Finally, we returned to the classrooms for a well-earned treat – pizza and Zooper Doopers for lunch.
A huge thank you to Mrs. Goodwin for organising such a fun and memorable event for everyone. We couldn't have asked for a better way to wrap up the school year!
