From the Principal

Last weekend and into this week, the College hosted Principals and senior leaders from Loreto schools across Australia for a series of meetings. Given our College’s rich heritage is both Loreto and Jesuit, the College benefits from being a Loreto Associate school and Jesuit Companion school, ensuring the continuation of our long-standing Ignatian heritage.

Throughout the week another important meeting took place to discuss the College’s future planning. On Wednesday a joint meeting of College Council, and Council sub-committees, Finance and Risk and Property and Planning took place. The aim of the meeting was to discuss the proposed re-ordering of the current Building Masterplan priorities to more readily align with the College’s strategic intent. The meeting proved highly productive, and I look forward to sharing our re-ordered building priorities in the New Year.

This morning, our Head of Sport, Jess Pillera, Deputy Head of Sport, Darren Kowal, and I attended the Associated and Catholic Colleges of WA (ACC) Awards Ceremony. During the ceremony, Secondary School Mathematics Teacher and Head of Loreto House, Ciaran Gallagher, was awarded a 15-Year Service Award for his significant contribution to Catholic school sport.

Lastly, at the time of writing, final preparations are being made for tonight’s Christmas Concert due to be held in our Library Courtyard. Our Christmas Concert is always a highlight and heralds the College’s transition into the final weeks of the year culminating in our Presentation Evening next Thursday, Year 6 Farewell Mass and final whole of College Mass on 5 December.

John XXIII College Council: Property and Planning Committee

The College Council is establishing a pool of qualified and interested College parents from which to seek members for the Property and Planning Committee as positions become available. A skill set and experience in town planning and environmental planning would be highly regarded.

The Committee's responsibilities include ensuring that the physical condition of the College is kept in good repair, with provision for ongoing maintenance and planning for future needs, developments and acquisitions. Meetings are held bi-monthly, generally early on a Thursday morning. This is a great opportunity to get involved in the governance of the College.

Initial inquiries and expressions of interest to join the pool of candidates should be directed to the College Director of Finance and Corporate Services, Mr John Cumming, by Friday, 29 November 2024. For further information please email john.cumming@johnxxiii.edu.au or phone (08) 9383 0402.
