Years 8, 10, 12

Welcome back to the 2024 school year. We are excited by the year ahead and continuing our commitment to public education and the students here at Henry Kendall High School.

It has been a fantastic start for our new Year 7 cohort. Mrs Kostalas - Year 7 Adviser has started to work closely with the new Year 7 students, fostering positive relationships and focusing on respect in our school community. There will be lots of exciting opportunities across the school for our Year 7 students this term, with one of them being the Year 7 Camp on Monday 8, Tuesday 9 and Wednesday 10 April 2024. All the information about Year 7 camp was distributed last week via School Bytes and at the year meeting. If students have any questions about the camp, they are encouraged to speak to Mrs Kostalas.

Year 9 have come back firing on all cylinders and have been excited to start their Stage 5 journey. Students have had lessons in their 100-hour and 200-hour elective courses, and they have shown a real commitment to these courses already. The high expectations with classroom/playground behaviour, full school uniform and attending every day have been set and these areas will be a point of focus for the Year 9 cohort this year. I look forward to working with Miss Sanki - Year 9 Adviser and the families again this year.

Year 11 have also made a positive start to their Stage 6 journey. The Year 11 Information Evening in Week 4 was a good chance for students and families to find out more information about the HSC, ATAR’s and the policies and procedures of the HSC. This was a well-attended event, with all students receiving their Year 11 assessment schedules. The HSC is a marathon for our students and I look forward to sharing this journey with our Year 11 cohort in 2024-2025.

We also had our Information Evening for our Year 4, 5 and 6 feeder primary schools last week. This event was organised by our Head Teacher Applied Learning, Mrs Woodland. It provided future students and parents with an opportunity to ask questions about the school as well as hear about the different programs that each faculty implement.

Mr Sheppard, Year 7 Adviser 2025 – spoke about his excitement in starting his new role and what qualities he will be bring to the role next year. This was a fantastic event, and I would like to thank Mrs Woodland for all of her organisation in the lead up to the 4, 5, 6 Information Evening.

Well done to all of our school community for the positive start to 2024.

Mr Gareth Wright
