Spotlight on Learning - Room 1

Our new reception class has had a great first week of school. It was lovely to see such happy children Monday morning, excited for their first day.

During the week, the children have been focusing on learning the routines and expectations in Room 1. They are quickly becoming superstars at lining up and coming back to class when the bell goes.

The students build on their fine motor skills, so they have they are ready to begin writing in the coming weeks. Lots of activities to build hand and pincer grip strength.

We also began our Heggerty program which is used to develop phonological awareness skills. They loved meeting Hannah our Heggerty Hippo, who is always on the lookout for people trying their best during Heggerty.

Phonological Awareness is the ability to recognise that spoken words are made up of individual sound parts. It is a key part of learning to read and write, if you can hear the sounds in words, you can read the sounds, before finally writing the sounds in words.

Thanks to all the families in Room 1 for making the start of the school year smooth and enjoyable for everyone. Take a look at our wonderful Reception students in action!
