Leadership Report

Welcome to 2024!

Welcome to the 2024 school year to all of our students, staff and families.

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all of our new and returning families to the school. The first week has been really settled and smooth across the school with our students beginning to learn new routines and structures in their new classes. It has been wonderful to see happy and focused students in classrooms and establishing great early relationships that will pave the way for a successful year ahead. A great start to the year everyone!

Staffing updates

This year we welcome two new teachers to Marion Primary School.

I am delighted to announce and welcome Antje Woodrow who is working in Room 3, Year 1/2, and Nicole Hooper who is working in Room 6, Year 3/4.

We have dedicated a special page for Antje and Nicole to introduce themselves to our Marion Community. Be sure to take a look!

Nicole is working in Room 6 backfilling Zoe Stone who has taken leave for 2024 at short notice. Zoe has asked me to share the following information with all of our families, please see below:

Dear families,

Many have asked countless times over the years I’ve been at Marion when it would be my turn to go on maternity leave - well now is the time! My husband and I are very excited to have twins arriving this year. It's an exciting time for us and we can't wait to meet our new additions to the family. However, due to the nature of my pregnancy being very high risk and many other hurdles that have popped up my growing team of doctors have determined that it is not ok for me to return to school. I have seen some members of the community when going to appointments and appreciate the well wishes and congratulations they have passed on. Many of the children are now well aware I am not at school this year and those working closely with me knew I was attending lots of medical appointments over the past couple of years. Whilst they didn’t know for what purpose they have always asked if I am ok. So please reassure them if they ask that I am ok, I’m just not able to be at school running up and down the stairs and don’t have the energy to be doing all the things that us teachers do! Growing 2 people at once takes a lot of energy so I am on orders to be resting as much as possible. I hope everyone has an enjoyable year and very much appreciate all the love and support from the entire Marion Primary School community that has come our way.  We are very lucky to have the community that we do at Marion Primary.

Finally, I wish Nicole all the best and am sure she will have a wonderful and successful year at Marion PS.

Zoe 😃

We wish Zoe all the best with her pregnancy and all eagerly look forward to meeting her exciting new addition of twins later in the year! All our love and well wishes, Zoe!

Acquaintance Night / AGM

As you would be aware from earlier communication, our Acquaintance Night / AGM is being held on Tuesday 13th February, 2024 (Week 3). Parents will be able to meet their child's classroom teacher/s and receive important information about class routines and structures. Information covered will include:

  • Class expectations
  • Structure and routines
  • Communication processes
  • Homework
  • Term Overview
  • Additional teaching information
  • Specialist subject information

This year we are looking to enable greater participation and engagement of families in the evening by providing greater flexibility for families to attend sessions, especially for families with multiple students across different year levels of the school. Class teachers will be offering two sessions for Acquaintance Night.

The format/structure for Acquaintance Night / AGM is:

  • Class teachers will offer two 30-minute sessions, face-to-face in classrooms
    • Session 1 - 5:30 pm - 6 pm
    •  Session 2 - 6:50 pm - 7:20 pm (repeat of Session 1)
  • AGM will take place in the Library from 6 pm - 6:45 pm.
    • Information regarding the AGM was sent home via email earlier this week. Please take note and if you are interested in nominating for Governing Council this year, please be in touch as soon as possible.

The Department for Education still expects schools to operate with safe COVID-19 measures in place. Sanitiser and face masks will be available for use at Acquaintance Night sessions and the AGM.

The simple reminder for all schools remains in place:

If you are unwell, please stay home and test!

General School Information

An email was sent home yesterday with important information for all parents to carefully read.

I am looking forward to another wonderful year working with all students, staff and families at Marion PS and am very excited about where we are heading this year.

Many thanks for all of your continued support.

Regards,

Guy Walmsley
