An interview with...

Chiara Villani

Supplying and allocating the best resources for VCE success

If the best way to create an enterprising and fulfilling future is to take it one step at a time, then Year 12 VCE student, Chiara Villani has already begun her ascent.

Evincing a refreshing, yet unassuming self-confidence, Chiara has long held a zeal for the realm of economics, finance, business-management, and marketing. Having already fast-tracked an accountancy program through Virtual Schools Victoria (VSV) this year and on the cusp of receiving a place within Deakin University’s Accelerate Program in Business Management and Marketing, Chiara’s determination to one day head a corporate portfolio is a pathway set to unfold before her.

‘I’ve always had kind of a passion for business, finance and economics even when I was younger. By the end of next year, I will know a bit more about where my studies and interests will take me. After visiting Deakin University’s Geelong campus this year, however, I hope to get a place there. I really liked the between city and country atmosphere.’

A student who readily admits to enjoying the challenge of learning new things and seeing new opportunities open before her, Chiara has certainly put in some hard work early on to ensure her future career objectives.

‘Last year I did work experience at an accounting firm and while I loved the experience and it was amazing, it also made me realise that I don’t want to be sitting in a small office every day and I don’t want to be working on ‘small things.’ I want to do corporate work. Obviously, you must work your way up with any job, but I’d like to do something that involves a large company.

‘This year and last year, I fast-tracked business management. I feel like it’s given me a good foundation with business knowledge, and I also did VSV accounting by correspondence. I had an online teacher, and I did my work through that, which was challenging but it was a good experience. I’m also doing economics this year as well, which I love.

Discovering the possibility of the Accelerate Program through Deakin University during her open day visits, Chiara said,

‘I’ve gotten very good marks this year, I’ve been happy with how I’ve done and I’m looking forward to next year which will build on the foundational learning we’ve put in place. I think it’s exciting and hopefully, I will be able to do the Accelerate Program in Business Management and Marketing which will also contribute to my ATAR.’

When asked how her School of Possibilities mentors have supported her in her journey towards her university pathway to date, Chiara said,

‘I think it’s been pretty good and obviously I have mentors that specialise in my kind of area of interest. They’ve been a massive help! The school has just been so supportive and though we’re still a young school, I haven’t felt that that’s been a disadvantage at all.’

The world is clearly your oyster, Chiara and the college looks forward to hearing all about your future success next year, in Year 12 VCE.
