FOUNDATION
Last week we had time and opportunity to spend some time with our buddies from Year 5/6. We were able to visit the SLA (Senior Learning Area) and explore where our buddies do their learning. As collaborators, we created friendship bracelets with them. We had so much fun spending time with our buddies!
As inquirers, we also began to introduce and unpack our Agreed Ways at St Fidelis. The Agreed Ways are the rules we have to follow. As communicators, we shared our ideas about what we thought the Agreed Ways meant. Our focus has been on listening to the speaker and following directions. We now know that listening to the speaker means we look at the person who is talking and put our hand up if we would like to speak. Following directions means that we do what the teacher asks of us quickly and respectfully.
Please remember to send in a box of tissues and a bag that can be used for Library borrowing.
Have a wonderful week!

YEAR 1/2
This week in 1/2, we have been making lots of new discoveries. We had the opportunity to listen to the story ‘Stuck’ written by Oliver Jeffers, one of the teacher's favourites. After hearing the story, we shared our discoveries with our peers. To extend our thinking further, we made connections to ourselves and identified all the ways we are resourceful and persistent.
As mathematicians, we have been tuning in and finding out about the different ways to represent data on a graph. We created a picture graph to find out about each other’s birthday months. As thinkers we analysed the graph and communicated our thinking about what we noticed. We will continue to refer to this throughout the year and add birthdays to our monthly calendar. We have also collected data about our favourite colours and eye colours and even created a data set from the coloured counters which we organised. It has been a great way to help us get to know each other!
Being a part of a Catholic faith community, we gathered together to engage in prayer. As thinkers, we had the opportunity to consider the word ‘prayer’ and what we already know about it. We made connections to our previous experiences at school and home. We also had time to explore different prayers and use our prior knowledge to communicate what we already know with others. Together, we collaborated and thought about what was important to us, what we wished for others and how do we want to feel, then we made our own prayers. Lastly, we co-created our prayer mats to engage in prayer meaningfully each morning and afternoon.
Last week, we were very excited to be able to participate in a Hockey Clinic! We had the opportunity to learn various skills and play enjoyable games! It was lots of fun! Check out some photos below.
A reminder that we have Ash Wednesday Mass at St. Fidelis' Church next Wednesday, the 14th of February. All families are welcome to attend. Mass begins at 9:15.

YEAR 3/4
We have been building many positive relationships this week and getting to know each other.
As curious thinkers, we engaged in our first STEM session of the year with Mr Frazzetto. We talked all about how we will use technology in acceptable ways and what exciting things we have upcoming this term. We’re looking forward to each having our own Chrome books shortly and finding out how to use these to extend our learning.
As mathematicians, we are learning to collect and record data. We generated questions to ask our peers and surveyed each other to find our favourite interests. When collecting the data, we found out information about our peers. We recorded and represented our data in different ways.
As resilient learners, we engaged in our very first Resilient Project Session with Miss Sally. Our class thought deeply about what it means to be empathetic, why it is important and how we can continue to demonstrate this in our lives. Working all together, we reflected on our own experiences and shared our thinking. We drew our own pictures to demonstrate how we show empathy to one another.
We look forward to seeing you all at the on-site Parent-Teacher Meet and Greets on Wednesday, February 14th, from 12:30 p.m. onwards.

YEAR 5/6
What a fantastic week! We have had so much fun getting to know each other in many engaging ways.
We were so excited on Tuesday morning to invite our buddies to the SLA for the first time. We had so much fun making friendship bracelets together, we are looking forward to spending time with them over the year!
As thinkers, we began to tune in and find out about our inquiry big questions “How can we be empowered learners and leaders?” We activated our prior knowledge by documenting our first thinking about our big question. We continued to find out about being empowered learners by unpacking the learning assets in small groups.
Throughout the past week we have revisited our agreed ways and found out about our child code of conduct. This is where we learnt about ways we can stay safe at St Fidelis. As a way of finding out, we reviewed a child friendly version of the child safety policy. As a way of displaying these in our learning space, we identified different ways we can stay safe at St Fidelis.
Congratulations to all of our leaders who were presented with their badges on Friday at our leadership assembly. We are looking forward to watching you continue to develop your leadership skills throughout the year.
We are looking forward to meeting you all on Wednesday at our meet and greets, remember to book in a time!
Have a wonderful week!
