Education in Faith

Education in Faith encompasses the following areas: Religious Education, Prayer, Liturgy and Sacraments.

Ash Wednesday is the first day of the Christian season of Lent.  Lent is a time when we pray, give up things we enjoy in order to give to others, and do kind things for people.  As we prepare to remember the death and resurrection of Jesus during Easter, let us do so with hope, now and for future generations.

God of hope and compassion,

Teach us how to show your love to others,

Be with us as we try to put our compassion into action.

May we respond with love and hope,

We ask this in Jesus’ name

Amen

Ash Wednesday/beginning of year whole school mass.

This Wednesday, the 14th of February, as a whole school Catholic community, we will celebrate Ash Wednesday/beginning of the school year mass.  This celebration will begin at 9.00 am at St Fidelis' church. We invite all parents and carers to join us as we celebrate this special celebration.

Caritas Australia:

During the six weeks of Lent, as a school community we focus on Project Compassion and as a school community how we can make a difference. Project Compassion brings thousands of Australian schools, parishes and supporters together to raise funds for people living in some of the most vulnerable communities across the world.

This week each family will receive a Caritas money box where we ask for a  small donation.  Your generosity can help the lives of some of the world’s most vulnerable people.

Reconciliation:

This year, our Year Three children will receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation.  The Sacrament of Reconciliation, also known as the Sacrament of Confession, is a Sacrament instituted by Jesus in his love and mercy to offer forgiveness for the times we have made poor choices and have turned away from Jesus. The Year 3 children, parents and carers will engage in an online workshop on Thursday 14th March at 7.00pm.  Maria Forde will facilitate this workshop.

Reconciliation celebration: The reconciliation celebration will take place on Thursday the 21st of March at 7.00 pm at St Fidelis' church.

What’s Happening in Religious Education:

As we begin our new year of learning, we begin with a whole school focus on Prayer.  Our learners have been focusing on various prayers, such as traditional prayers, morning prayers and the St Fidelis prayer. They will be given the opportunity to unpack the meaning of these prayers and develop an understanding of the importance of these prayers.

As people of faith, we are looking at various symbols and artefacts that are associated with prayer. As we begin the Lenten season, our learners will focus on Project Compassion, Ash Wednesday and the Easter story.

God bless, and have a great week,

Annette Gasbarro

Religious Education Leader.
