Garden Program

SAKG

We are very excited to recommence our SAKG program with students in Years 3/4 for Semester 1.

 THIS WEEK IN THE GARDEN...

Students in the garden groups spent time harvesting our purple beans and mint for use in the kitchen recipes. They also started practising steering a wheelbarrow, in preparation for their wheelbarrow licence.   Tool safety was discussed and clean up in the chook shed was commenced.

THIS WEEK IN THE KITCHEN...

Students in the kitchen groups learnt all about knives and how to cut food safely. Chopping boards were anchored into place with non-slip mats, and the cutting began! They learnt how to use a bear claw, tucking their thumb behind the food and the bridge chop to slice and chop various vegetables for a platter.

This week's recipes for you to try at home:

All students returned to our WMPS 'restaurant' to sit down together around a set table, and the prepared food to share. This week's menu was vegetable sticks with hummus and tzatziki dip. Please feel free to click on the above recipe attachments to download your own copy of the recipes to prepare at home.

Students are encouraged to taste foods that they are unfamiliar with, and we had the majority of students who tried at least one new food... such a display of courage! Most had never eaten purple beans before!

A very special thanks to our wonderful parent volunteers- Jess, Danielle, River, Luke, Jen, Reena, Keely and Lola, without whom we would not be able to run this valuable program.
